Truck News: Volvo Trucks Appoints Mitch Peden As New Managing Director for Volvo Trucks Malaysia

Volvo Trucks Malaysia has a new Managing Director with effect from 1st August 2018. Mitch Peden will replace outgoing MD, Mats Nilsson, who has helmed Volvo Trucks Malaysia for the past 5 years. Mitch comes from Australia and has been with Volvo Trucks since 2005.

Mr Mitch Peden is a graduate from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Bond University, the new MD of Volvo Trucks Malaysia first started his career at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He then switched to the automotive sector in 1994 when he joined General Motors and then worked for a number of automotive companies before joining Volvo Trucks in 2005. With over two decades of automotive industry experience, 13 years of which were with Volvo Trucks, it can be said that he is well tasked to take Volvo Trucks Malaysia to the next level.

As the new managing director, Mitch will be responsible for growing the trucks sales and aftermarket business in Malaysia and Brunei, which Volvo Trucks Malaysia also handles.
“It is an exciting time for Volvo Trucks today with so many new developments in Malaysia. Volvo Trucks will continue introducing new technology and innovation as we head into the future and to provide better quality services and products to our customers here. I am excited to continue on the footsteps of my predecessor and fellow colleague, Mats Nilsson, who has done a brilliant job in raising Volvo Trucks Malaysia to where it is today. I am very confident that, with the strong commitment of the team here in Malaysia, we will be able to continuously offer the best to our customers.” said Mitch.

It would be interesting to see how a change in the top management of one of Malaysia's top truck brands will now lead the company.

As for the outgoing MD, Mats Nilsson (2nd right - shown in an old photo from 2015, which is just a few years into this tenure here in Malaysia), he will be moving to the Renault Organisation in France (the commercial vehicle arm) within the Volvo Group. Throughout the 5 years, I have had the opportunity to get to know him better and discuss with him on a varied number of subject matters. Whilst it is sad to see a familiar face leave for another country, it usually happens as the management of multi-national companies are usually on a rotational tour of duty and will be posted to a different location after a few years. I wish Mats all the best in his future undertakings.
