The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E 300 AMG Line was launched earlier today at the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia mid-2018 media briefing on the premium brand's performance to date. It will be the range topping Mercedes-Benz E-Class variant, aside from the full AMG models (E43, E63 S or the E53 if it is launched here). It will replace the E 350 e plug-in hybrid which will be discontinued.
We were briefed on this surprise change of this range topping model. The E 350 e will cease local production due to the full utilization of the model's existing Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) tax exemption quota. This could be the first in a change of the Malaysian government's policy surrounding the tax exemptions for cars with EEV or hybrid status following the change in the ruling party of the country.
The good folks at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia have adjusted and have decided to go with the E 300 AMG Line to fill up the slot which will be vacant by the E 350 e which could cost a lot more if the tax exemption was not given. So rather than waiting for the government's decision, they have decided to just get this variant out. Expect other changes to affect most players who are getting tax exemptions from the EEV system in the near future. It should be interesting to see what new developments will come up after this.
The locally assembled Mercedes-Benz E 300 AMG Line complements the existing lineup which includes the E 200 Avantgarde, E 250 Avantgarde and E 250 Exclusive and will be priced from an estimated RM388,888 making it still good value for money as it offers a long equipment list including Nappa leather upholstery, a premium Burmester Surround Sound system, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, Park Assist with 360-degree camera and twin 12.3-inch displays for the instrument panel and COMAND Online infotainment system – the latter supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
