Michelin recently launched its latest generation tyre - the MICHELIN Primacy 4. This premium high performance but comfort oriented tyre is engineered by Michelin to provide lasting safety and excellent wet and dry performance in both new and worn states, throughout its entire life cycle as well as being a quiet riding tyre.
Michelin commissioned TÜV Rheinland Thailand Limited to test new and worn * MICHELIN Primacy 4 tyres on wet roads, as well as new and worn tyres of other premium brands. This explains the launch in Thailand, and they used a Honda Accord as the test mule.
According to TUV Thailand, the Michelin Primacy 4 tyres on wet roads braked 2.5meters shorter when new, and 5.1 meters shorter when worn when compared to the other premium brands. TUV Thailand also found that worn Primacy 4 tyres brake 1.8meters shorter than brand new tyres of some other premium brands**. So basically Michelin decided to use an external party to substantiate their claims this time around.
According to Michelin, the new MICHELIN Primacy 4 comes with two innovative technologies that took 3 years to design. The EverGrip™ Technology is the first of the two. This consists of two features - new thread design that provides increased water evacuation space by 50% for wet grip as the tyre wears down with use and a new-generation rubber compound, which by bonding rubber and silica more strongly and evenly together–provides uniform energy dissipation upon contact with the road, resulting in better grip on wet roads, even when the tyre is worn down.
Then, the 2nd-Generation Silent Rib Technology features inter-locking bands to minimize deformation of tread blocks. This reduces air pumping sound effects for a more silent ride, and provides better shock absorption in response to road obstacles for a more comfortable ride. So this new tyre is indeed Michelin's high performance comfort tyre which complements its sportier Pilot Sport range of tyres.
The MICHELIN Primacy 4 is already on sale and will be available in 64 sizes, from 15-to 18-inch diameter, offering fitments for popular vehicles such as the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the BMW 3 and 5-series, Mercedes E and C classes, and other premium vehicles.
It will be available at ‘TYREPLUS’ and Michelin’s authorized dealers across the region.
