Trucks: UPC Chemicals Chooses the UD Quester Truck for Their First Ever Truck Fleet

UPC Chemicals (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a petrochemical product manufacturer, has decided to choose UD Trucks to be their first ever truck brand. UD Trucks and authorised distributor-partner Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE) recently welcomed UPC Chemicals (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as the new owner of 5 units of UD Quester Heavy Duty trucks. UPC Chemicals had purchased the heavy-duty UD Quester trucks through Edaran Setia Auto, TCIE’s authorized private dealer located in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

UPC Chemicals (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is part of UPC Technology Corporation. The group was founded in 1976 as a petrochemical products producer where the group continuously focuses on their core chemical business as well as the development of specialty chemicals and now, the logistics or transport service businesses for chemicals.

They currently have 7 manufacturing and logistics centers in China and is expanding its business in the Asia Pacific. Here in Malaysia, UPC have been working closely with local raw material supplier BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd to meet the demand of the rapidly growing ASEAN market. As such, the reliable transport of chemicals requires good, efficient transport.

This is where UD Trucks comes in. This purchase by UPC marks the start of another long term partnership between all parties. So, as the new UD Trucks is the first and only truck brand owned by UPC Chemicals, is a special milestone for both UD Trucks and UPC, a symbolic truck handover ceremony was held at UPC Chemicals’ Port Tank Farm in Kuantan, where both the companies’ management teams attended in celebration of this memorable event.

Eddy Chan, Director, Sales and Marketing, UD Trucks Malaysia said at the handover event, “The UD Trucks brand is highly notable for its Japanese craftsmanship and hands-on field approach which are key factors in creating reliable, durable, fuel-efficient and modern-looking trucks that are built to go the extra mile. The Quester truck was engineered with global technological know-how and safety principles to help customers stay ahead of the competition. With our long-time partner, TCIE’s extensive expertise in local sourcing and assembly, it allows the Quester to be an affordable heavy-duty vehicle that does not compromise on superior performance.”

Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd,  Wong King Yoon, also added, “I am confident that UPC Chemicals (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is in good hands because Edaran Setia Auto already has TCIE’s full support in providing excellent UD Trucks aftermarket service and easily obtainable UD Genuine Parts through our vast service network. Our support will ensure that UD Quester trucks perform at their best and contribute to UPC Chemicals’ business by promoting uptime and maximising productivity.”

It is always about uptime, reliability and affordability when it comes to operating a fleet of trucks. This is what is always emphasised by truck manufacturers and operators. As such, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment has an extensive network of 43 services centers and dealerships nationwide to cater to any sales and after sales issues. Also, the purchase of UD trucks will be supported by UD Extra Mile Support services which will include UD Genuine Service and Parts, UD Driver Training, UD Telematics and UD Trust Service Agreements for customers.

Whilst strong sales and after sales network is important, the product itself would also need to catch the eye of the truck operator. Wu Weiting, General Manager, UPC Chemicals (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. said, “To meet the fast-growing business, we know that we should be better prepared to handle more deliveries. We need trucks that are robust, reliable, fuel-efficient and affordable to transport our products to customers in all over Peninsular Malaysia. Together with Edaran Setia Auto, who has been very graciously meeting all our demands, we believe that the new UD Quester will definitely help us increase our business productivity,”
