National car maker PROTON, in collaboration with our national petroleum company PETRONAS, has launched an exclusive range of engine oil for Proton cars. The PETRONAS Syntium SE range is now made available at all Proton authorised service centres.
Proton has said that this is part of their Customer First initiative, which is to provide better value to its customers not only in terms of better cars, performance and protection but also cost of ownership. The introduction of this exclusive range of engine oils will create better value for loyal customers for both short and long term. With this new collaboration, PROTON owners may save up to 20% on their next service at any authorised PROTON Edar outlets based on the use of the new engine oil during service.
Proton is up in the JD POWER Quality Index
All of the Customer First initiatives have actually borne fruit. Some of the service enhancements include to increase the number of our 7-days a week service centres from 23 outlets to 27 outlets to cater to the growing number of service demands by end of the year. Proton has also streamlined its parts prices for over 600 items in its recent price-review exercise to make them more competitive and provide better value. Customers are also able to book slots for services via the MyProton mobile application which are available via Android and iOS platforms and more efforts are in progress to meet the demands and needs of our customers. And because of the efforts stated above, Proton is up by 19 index points in JD Power's quality index.
PETRONAS Syntium SE types - the 'SE' stands for Specially for Edar (Proton Edar)
There are 3 variants of the new engine oil, the fully synthetic PETRONAS Syntium 3000 SE (5W-30); the semi-synthetic PETRONAS Syntium 800 SE (10W-30) and the mineral based PETRONAS Syntium 500 SE (15W-40). The three oil ranges are recommended by PETRONAS in giving optimum performance, for a trouble-free drive depending on the type of engines that Proton cars use (both old and new). At present, all Proton cars have service interval of 10,000km and this is applicable for all the engine oils including the new PETRONAS Syntium SE engine oils.
Only for Authorised Service Centre oil change
There is a disclaimer that you readers must be aware of. The engine oil introduced here is exclusively for use in authorised Proton service centres only and can only be bought if you are going for an oil change at the service centre. One cannot walk in and buy this engine oil.
I suppose it should be opened up to walk in customers as this would at least allow Proton owners who want to do it themselves the chance to experience the new oil (Ed - It could be suggested that walk in customers give their vehicle chassis number for the purpose of records if they are allowed to buy this product. Hopefully Proton reads this suggestion as it could still be a win-win situation for all). But for the moment, it is only for those that service their cars at Proton. Not outside. So do take note folks.

PRESS RELEASE
PROTON GETS NEW EXCLUSIVE RANGE OF PETRONAS SYNTIUM SE ENGINE OILS
Subang Jaya, 11 November 2016 – PROTON Holdings Bhd (“PROTON” or “the Company”), in collaboration with PETRONAS, today launched the exclusive range of PETRONAS Syntium SE engine oil for Proton cars. The engine oil was specially developed to optimise the performance of Proton cars and at the same time improve the cost of ownership of the cars in the long run.
Present at the launching ceremony were YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, En. Zubair Abdul Razak, Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd (PLMM) and the Senior Management of both PROTON and PETRONAS.
With this new engine oil for Proton cars, PETRONAS is addressing the latest issues that drivers are facing today. While cars are moving, drivers are not aware that the excessive engine heat continues to build-up, especially during traffic congestion, driving up steep slopes and continuous acceleration on highways. As a result, it affects the engines in the long run. Thus, it is important for drivers to use the right engine oil that is able to handle the stress of modern day driving conditions.
PROTON, in collaboration with PETRONAS, is taking a step further to improve its customers’ experience and value proposition with the exclusive range of engine oil for Proton cars. The PETRONAS Syntium SE range is now made available at all PROTON authorised service centres. This is a testament of PROTON’s Customer First initiative, to provide better value to its customers not only in terms of better cars, performance and protection but also cost of ownership. The introduction of this exclusive range of engine oils for PROTON cars will create better value for loyal PROTON customers for both short and long term. With this new collaboration, PROTON owners may save up to 20% on their next service at any authorised PROTON Edar outlets.
There are 3 new options for our customers: fully synthetic PETRONAS Syntium 3000 SE (5W-30); semi-synthetic PETRONAS Syntium 800 SE (10W-30) and PETRONAS Syntium 500 SE (15W-40) which is mineral-based. These ranges are recommended by PETRONAS in giving optimum performance, for a trouble-free drive. At present, all Proton cars have service interval of 10,000km and this is applicable for all the engine oils including the new PETRONAS Syntium SE engine oils.
“With the introduction of the PETRONAS Syntium SE exclusive range of engine oils, PROTON customers are able to enjoy better value whenever they service their cars at any PROTON authorised service centers. In addition, they will have better experience in terms of car performance at improved maintenance costs,” said Dato’ Fuaad.
“The exclusive range of engine oils for PROTON cars from PETRONAS Syntium is specially formulated with oCoolTechTM technology that helps defend against excessive engine heat, keeping engines performing optimally for a trouble-free drive.” added En. Zubair.
“The move to introduce the Petronas Syntium SE Engine Oils range is part of the Company’s effort to provide better customer service experience and to lower cost of ownership in the long run to its customers. Some of the service enhancements include to increase the number of our 7-days a week service centres from 23 outlets to 27 outlets to cater to the growing number of service demands by end of the year. Not only that, PROTON has also streamlined its parts prices for over 600 items in its recent price-review exercise to make them more competitive and provide better value. Further, our customers are also able to book slots for services via the MyProton mobile application which are available via Android and iOS platforms and more efforts are in progress to meet the demands and needs of our customers,” continued Dato’ Fuaad.
Some of these initiatives have contributed to commendable improvements in the 2016 Customer Service Index (CSI) as assessed by JD Power which saw our CSI index increased by 19 points. This vindicates all the efforts made collectively by all our employees to focus more on our customers satisfaction by giving them better products and customer experience.
