UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia have announced Special Service Campaign (SSC) to replace the fuel pump on some Toyota and Lexus models that were sold by them in 2013 to 2019 (2014 Corolla Altis shown above). If you have one of the cars mentioned herein which were officially sold by UMWT do give them a visit to get it fixed at no charge whatsoever. Only your time is needed to get it done folks!
According to UMWT, with information received from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), there are around 12,000 units of Toyota Alphard, Camry, Corolla, Innova and Fortuner and 1,500 units of Lexus models GS300, GS350, IS300, LC500/500H, LS460, LS500/500H, LS600H, NX200T/300H,RC350/300H, RX350/450H and RX350/450 manufactured from 2013 to 2019 and distributed by UMWT are involved in this service fix campaign. Those models not listed here are not affected.
The cars mentioned above may have been fitted with a faulty fuel pump which may suddenly stop operating. If this happens, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and engine power hesitation may happen. This may result the vehicle stall and unable to start. This scenario could increase the risk of a crash while driving at higher speed. In other words, the electric fuel pump, which supplies fuel to the car's engine may just stop working and no fuel will flow into your engine, thereby causing it to stall, sputter and then die.
So get it changed if you don't want to suddenly be caught out by this on the way to work or back from work. Worse case on a flyover or ramp causing traffic jams or being caught in a dangerous place to have stopped in the first place.
UMWT will officially notify all its affected vehicle owners to update the fuel pump unit at no charge. However, the replacement work should depend on the car models.Note this caveat here folks. But I would suggest getting it done as soon as possible. It also shouldn't take long as most fuel pumps are close to the fuel tank and within easy reach.
For further information, owners of affected cars may contact any authorised Toyota Service
Centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
