The Japan Super GT organization has decided to parter with Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Malaysia. This collaboration will see activities such as exciting Super GT experiences for enthusiasts and fans at each round of the Vios Challenge One-Make Race and TGR Festival as well as during the upcoming Malaysian leg of the Japan Super GT races at the Sepang Circuit in July. The new Toyota Supra GR will be the center stage for this partnership.
The reason for this partnership is that the organisers of the Japan Super GT have taken notice of the Vios Challenge One-Make Race and Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Festival held in Malaysia since 2017. They noticed that the events had received strong support from motorsports enthusiasts and Toyota fans and because of that, this happened. In terms of the Toyota events stated, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has also been greatly encouraged to continue the series which is in its third season this year. Expect a lot more from them coming for a couple of years more from the looks of it.
Elaborating on the topic at hand, Akio Takeyama, Chief Motorsport Officer and Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, said, “Thanks to the support from Malaysia’s racing community and fans, Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival Malaysia has now entered the third season. As we want to establish an even bigger footprint in Malaysian motorsports and to successfully do this is continuity. We are proud to be able to partner with Super GT which will position Toyota GAZOO Racing side by side with Asia’s foremost GT Motorsport racing series sharing the ‘fun to drive’ spirit and bringing more
excitement to motorsports enthusiast,”
UMW Toyota Motor have been active aside from the Vios Challenge One-Make Race, they had recently hosted its second Toyota GAZOO Racing Velocity Esports Championship last year. It is the biggest national Esports racing event in Malaysia and UMW Toyota Motor is the first Malaysian car company to be associated with the fast-growing Esports racing activity. Their brand presence has spread more into not only real life racing, but also cyber races too.
The collaboration with Japan Super GT, will begraced with the current Toyota Supra GR’s presence. Toyota's latest sportscar is the first of the high-performance GR products as part of the brand’s recent
introduction of its GAZOO Racing Garage and Products. So at the upcoming event at Sepang there will be an opportunity for visitors to experience the car at the TGR fests and at the Japan Super GT race in July.
As for the upcoming TGR festival, the fourth round of TGR Festival will be held at the Sepang International Circuit on 18 and 19 April, 2020. The third season began in September 2019 with the first round in Kuala Terengganu, while the second round was held at Bandar Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur in November and third round in Batu Kawan, Penang. Over 36 race-prepared Toyota Vios cars are taking part in the one-make race.
