Price Drop for the MODENAS Pulsar RS200 and Dominar D400 Motorcycles

Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (“MODENAS”) have announced a more than 10% reduction in prices for the Modenas Pulsar RS200 (above) and the Modenas Dominar D400 (below). This is quite some good news to those who would like something larger than their underbone 'kapchai' motorcycles as two of the already affordable and nice looking motorcycles have gotten much cheaper to procure.

The new prices, which are valid from 8th March 2020, have seen the price of the Pulsar RS200 drop by 12% to RM9,990. This is reduction of RM1,360. Meanwhile, the Dominar D400 will now be priced at RM13,788, which is RM1,700 less or 11% lower than before. The bikes are now a better than ever deal for Malaysians.

According to Mr. Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of MODENAS, the more than 10% price drop was attributed to the reduction in manufacturing cost of both models.

“Through improvements in our production process, we have managed to significantly bring down the manufacturing costs for the Modenas Pulsar RS200 and Modenas Dominar D400 models, and MODENAS is passing this cost savings to all two-wheel enthusiasts to make both these popular models much more affordable in Malaysia,” said Roslan.

The Modenas Pulsar RS200 is a fully-faired motorcycle, while the Modenas Dominar D400 is a sport-tourer. Both models are fitted with an in-line single-cylinder, liquid cooled, SOHC, fuel injected DTS-i engines. The bikes are also equipped with ByBre front single channel ABS mated to a 6-speed 4-stroke gearbox. The bikes are fully assembled in Malaysia and are based on Bajaj motorcycles of the same name.

Both the Modenas Pulsar RS200 and Modenas Dominar D400 are well designed and have strong and light steel-pressed perimeter steel frame, as well as uniquely placed underbelly exhaust to provide the extra stability and better control of the bike when cornering. They are also designed to soak up harsh road environments of the Indian sub-continent and should be more than capable to handle most terrain Malaysia has to offer.

Apart from the price reduction, MODENAS has stated that the Malaysian based motorcycle maker is planning to boost its sales by expanding its product portfolio and its reach through opening of new dealerships. MODENAS is planning to introduce five to eight new models (bikes and variants) to the Malaysian market in the current calendar year.

Back to the two motorcycles here, these are now more competitive than ever. They also look good for the price that they are offered. The price drop is likely to do with more local content being made for the products. As with local assembly here, the more locally sourced parts a manufacturer uses, the more tax exempts they can apply from the Malaysian government.
