Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd had, in early February, held a small handover ceremony of Isuzu FOWARD FVR trash compactor trucks by Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd, and their sub-contractor, Warisan Integriti Sdn Bhd. The trucks were bought by the companies from Indah Utara Auto Sdn Bhd, an authorised dealer of Isuzu Malaysia. According to Isuzu Malaysia, the new Isuzu Foward FVR compactor trucks are to be used for solid waste management, collection and disposal for local municipalities in Perlis and Kedah.
Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd is a Malaysian registered company that offers a wide range of sustainable and innovative waste solutions and cleaning services in the Northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. The new Isuzu Foward trucks are expected to replace Environment Idaman’s aging fleet, whereas Warisan Integriti's purchase was made as part of their long-term fleet expansion exercise. The waste collection business is a growing industry and there is a need for modern trash collection vehicles to help things out.
A total of 6 trucks were bought by Environment Idaman. All 6 units were of the Isuzu FORWARD (FVR 240MT) trucks and Warisan Integriti had purchased 4 units of Isuzu FORWARD (FVR 240AT). The difference is that the trucks bought by Warisan Integriti are the ones fitted with an automatic transmission unit which actually helps the truck driver by a fair bit.
When it comes to garbage or trash collection, the frequent stop and go movement requires the driver to always be on the gas pedal and then the brakes. Add the need to clutch in and out and change gears, you can see that during garbage pickups rounds, a garbage truck drive would need to change gears hundreds of times. So having an automated transmission helps alleviate fatigue while driving slowy with lots and lots of stops.
It also helps with wear and tear actually in some ways. An automated transmission (whether torque convertor or even a semi automated electronically operated clutch) will keep wear down in terms of brakes, a clutch change or even other comsunables. Since the gear changes are automatic, there is less risk of human error in wear and tear of transmission parts and one may even save on fuel as the transmission is operating efficiently as it is programmed to shift efficiently as possible.
Anyway, Atsunori Murata, Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Malaysia, took the time to personally thank representatives from Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd and Warisan Integriti Sdn Bhd for choosing Isuzu FORWARD FVR compactor trucks. Mr. Murata is confident that Isuzu’s reliability and durability will serve both companies well in their pursuit of providing timely services for day-to-day operations.
Representatives from Environment Idaman who were present at the ceremony were Fleet Engineering & Management Department, Azman bin Shamsuddin, Manager; and Termizi bin Hat, Technical Executive. For Warisan Integriti, Zakaria bin Hamid, Operation Manager of Warisan Integriti was present. Aside from that, Poh Seng Hooi, Managing Director; and Rodney Lee, General Manager of Indah Utara Auto Sdn Bhd, were also present to witness the handover ceremony.
For an added benefit, Isuzu Malaysia will be providing a training session to allow drivers of both companies to properly familiarise themselves with the FORWARD FVR trucks for optimum usage.
