MODENAS Gives Support to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star - Helping the Frontliners in the Fight Against the COVID-19 Coronavirus Outbreak Up North

Those in the Malaysian automotive industry aren't sitting still in these times of need and where a global calamity is now upon us. The national motorcycle brand, Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (“MODENAS” or “the Company”), a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad (“DRB-HICOM”), has come out in support of our frontliners, in the fight against the outbreak of the coronavirus Covid-19 here in Malaysia. They have decided to turn their attention towards given some assistance in the form of supplies and some basic equipment to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah. The hospital is a designated Covid-19 treatment facility.

The reason why MODENAS had chosen the hospital in Kedah was because there have been many NGO and individuals putting their help on hospitals in and around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The fact that MODENAS has their manufacturing operation in Gurun, Kedah is the main reason why they chose to do so up north. It does make a lot of sense as many of us here near the financial and government capital of Malaysia thinks that everything revolves around this part of Malaysia only.

With the fight against Covid-19 becoming tougher due to fatigue and a lack of medical supplies until most have to make do with self prepared items, the frontliners are still required to remain emotionally and mentally preserved even with this hardship. There is a shortage of nurses and doctors that was already plaguing the  Alor Setar hospital long before the outbreak too so any help would be welcome.

MODENAS had delivered boxes of drinking water, electric kettles, standing fans, extension cords and needed printers for the staff to use. In times like these, access to clean water is important and you may think that printers have nothing to do with combating a disease, but they will have their uses, especially in the admission and discharge of patients (There could be more than usual - which I hope not). The fans could be used in non-airconditioned areas or where the airconditioning isn't strong enough for the comfort of the people inside the wards or waiting areas. Also, they would have asked the administrators of the hospital first before supplying them with such items.

Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer elaborated on the fact that “A little goes a long way”. He said, "Today, MODENAS as a company and its employees via a quick donation drive have  successfully raised and donated essential items as urgently required by the hospital such as industrial fans, electrical kettles as well as bottled water in hopes to spark a little bit of joy and comfort to hospital staff whose health and lives are also put at risk while treating the Covid-19 patients."

“A very small gesture to the doctors, nurses, health workers, volunteers, medical professionals and not forgetting the security guards, which without them, the livelihood of our country as we know it would grind almost to a halt. With them, some sense in preserving normalcy in our country during these difficult times is made possible,” ended Roslan.

So this short bit of news is also to inform you folks that we have to think about locations outside of where we are at that may be facing the same problem as we are facing. Of course, it is good that MODENAS has chosen to assist a hospital far from the central region. May other companies that have the means follow suit.
