Shell Malaysia's Preventing Measures at Stations to Help Combat the COVID-19 Outbreak

During these times of the Movement Control Order which is currently ongoing till 31st March 2020 (tentatively), Shell Malaysia has stated that they remain committed to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers and their on-site staff at their Shell Stations nationwide. The safety and comfort of all those visiting their stations, and the Shell staff working at their stations are taken care of as best as they can during this period. Currently, Shell has implemented several prevention guidelines at all Shell stations nationwide in order to make these facilites as clean as possible in order to try and help limit any cases of COVID-19 infection.

The key word here in try to limit the spread of the coronavirus infection to people. I have to also say that I applaud front-line staff like these folks also as they, while you may not see them as important as hospital staff but people who HAVE to work serving others during a highly infectious disease outbreak are also brave people. We never know who they have to serve at their work positions. So treat them with respect and thank them for the services rendered.

So these are the guidelines at all Shell Malaysia stations nationwide.

Sanitization:
Shell has taken stringent steps to ensure the disinfection of high-touch areas at its 950 stations nationwide. High-touch areas are touchpoints located at fueling areas, Shell Select and facilities areas that are often exposed or used by customers. Every hour, these high-touch areas such as petrol pumps, fuel nozzles, pin pads, dispenser air balancers, door handles, pay windows, cashier area, tissue dispensers, switches, taps and sinks are disinfected.

Food and Store Safety
Deli2go, Select and 3rd party food brands: Shell has implemented a take-away only or delivery orders during this time. Shell is also conducting hourly sanitization of all customers’ touchpoints including coffee machines touch screens, Deli2go countertops, pastry thongs and showcase handles.

Restrooms Cleaning Frequency –
The frequency of cleaning for Shell restrooms has been increased to every hour with steps to ensure water and soap are always available. Remember to wash your hands WITH SOAP for at least 20 seconds before rinsing them off. 20 seconds allow the soap to work its magic and allow all viruses to be 'killed' by it.

Social Distancing Markers at Stations –
Social distancing marker will be placed in the stores, pay window area and Social Distancing poster at the store entrance. PLEASE follow this simple ruling when visiting refueling stations, banks, hospitals, markets, etc if you are out and about!

Site Staff -

Part of the safety effort also includes tracking and monitoring the health of all Shell on-site staff. Safety and health procedures added during this period include the checking of their temperatures before the start of every shift. Shell site staff are fully equipped with face mask, nitrile hand gloves and also comply with social distancing rules of never being too close to others to ensure their health and safety is taken care of. Shell Malaysia has stated that it is priority is for them to stay safe whilst operating and working at our stations.

Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Shairan Huzani Husain said, “Safety and cleanliness of our stations is most important to us. With all the uncertainties brought about by the rapidly evolving situation around us, we want to give our customers a peace of mind when they are at Shell stations. We assure Malaysians that Shell is committed to creating a clean and safe environment for customers at our stations”

“We have approximately more than 10,000 number of site staff helping us ensure our stations continue to operate. These are our “site heroes” who are taking the extra added initiative to clean, disinfect, and continuously ensuring that we are able to power Malaysia and all the necessary transportation, ambulance, logistics and essential services that keep Malaysia going in this trying time. To them, I cannot express enough our heartfelt gratitude and we will do everything to keep them safe while on duty” added Shairan.

The folks at Shell has also wish to state that they would like all customers to remain vigilant in practicing proper safety habits such as use hand sanitisers frequently while at the stations.

HOWEVER, do note that Shell also advises all customers to remove all gloves or plastics to avoid static contact while refueling. You must take note on this and also read above that they do wipe down their fuel pumps often.

Be safe people, and stay at home when necessary to slow down the spread of this virus.
