Down below are our two YouTube videos on the Scania G410. This is the latest Scania Prime Mover or heavy duty truck that is sold in Malaysia. Their New Truck Generation series of large commercial vehicles was only recently launched here. This G-Series truck is part of their latest line-up which includes the larger, more premium S-Series truck. But watch the video and you can actually see that this G410 is no slouch.
The 2019 Scania G410 truck you see here is locally assembled in Port Klang by Scania Malaysia. We were lucky enough to have the chaps at Scania Malaysia grant us access to the truck and also allow us to video Mr Tom Kuiphuis, Pre-Sales Director of Scania Southeast Asia while he briefs us about the truck.
We then had a Scania driver take us around Scania's Bukit Jelutong Hearquarters as well as for a trip around the area. From the short drive we can easily tell that the new Scania G-Series is a serious contender for the best in its heavy duty truck segment. It is so refined, so quiet compared to the previous G-series trucks sold here. The interior is also built up to a high standard and the materials inside actually feel more car-like than truck-like. This is a whole grade higher than any other truck sold here from what I have experienced. It is that good in terms of the materials used.
As for cabin space, even this mid-ranged G-Series allows you to stand upright (provided you are under 170cm tall). If it had a flat floor like the range topping S-Series, you could do some walking in the cabin too. But that being said, the cabin is more spacious than before and would be a nice place to be in for hours on end.
This G410 is designed for long haul in mind and with priority given to the driver. The driver's seat is more to the side and more forward than before, so blindspots are minimised and overall visibility is enhanced. Add with the optional active safety features you can spec up your truck, this new generation of Scania trucks are indeed an engineering marvel. You can tell where the 20 billion Kroner went in terms of development budget with this.
The G410 makes 410hp and 2050Nm torque from its 13liter Euro 3 engine. This engine is capable of handling our B10 biodiesel grade and it can also take B20 if it is introduced (personally I hope that they won't as many manufacturers are still not that happy with the quality of palm oil based B20 biodiesel). The truck can be configured to many drivetrain types like 4x4, 6x2, 4x2 etc. But all of it goes through a 12 Speed Opticruise AMT gearbox. It has all the retarder functions that will enable it to slow down via the transmission and save on brake pads. Lots of tech involved.
But those of you who are truck enthusiasts would know that this New Truck Generation Scania G-Series was first introduced in 2016. It only made it here in April 2019 due to the fact that Scania had to prepare the truck for local assembly. It had to get everything right so that the people at Scania Port Klang can assemble them, make sure that the new trucks can handle our local fuel and other nitty gritty stuff that needs to be handled. Local assembly is a must if you want to sell your vehicle at a competitive price as it brings down the import taxes and all.
This time it is a two part video due to the amount of information we need to convey to you. Of course, we have to also apologise that the audio in the first part is a little sub-par. The second part, which includes the in-cab view of the drive is better.
Anyway, this is one fantastic truck. Watch the videos folks...they are down below.
