Electric Vehicles / Bus News: Go Auto Enters Into Joint Venture With Mara Liner & Higer Bus Company to Develop, Manufacture and Use Electric Buses in Malaysia

Go Automobile Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (Go Automobile), which is part of the Go Auto automotive manufacturing and distributorship group of companies has entered into an arrangement with Mara Liner Sdn Bhd (MLSB) and Higer Bus Company Limited. The parties mentioned have established a strategic partnership to develop, manufacture and engineer the production of electric buses meant for Malaysia.

Through the cooperation, MLSB has also been appointed as the authorised sales representative, as well as providing the after sales service for all Go Auto products, including electric buses that will be developed by Go Automobile and Higer Bus Company.

During the small signing ceremony, Go Auto Executive Director, Dato' SM Azli SM Nasimuddin Kamal mentioned that Go Auto has handed over an electric bus to MLSB meant to be used for training and research purposes.

"We are honoured to be given the opportunity by MLSB. This cooperation is expected to cost more than RM30 million, and would boost Go Automobile and MLSB in the nation's transportation industry that is more competitive in electric vehicle (EV) technology." said Dato' Azli.

"We are also proud to be given the continuous trust, and are committed to develop the EV components for the Malaysian and ASEAN markets," Dato' Azli added.

This indirectly places Go Automobile among the leading companies that are committed in developing the EV ecosystem. This news comes after the announcement that Go Auto had entered into an agreement to develop electric buses with Higer Bus Company and battery manufacturer Microvast earlier this month.

Earlier, Go Automobile and MLSB had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Memacu Agenda Bumiputera exhibition sometime in April of this year. It was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Under the agreement, Go Automobile would supply electric buses to MLSB for a programme under the UNIBUS Initiative, which will be implemented at the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor in January next year, before moving to other public publicities.
