Go Auto, who currently assemble, distribute and sell Haval vehicles here in Malaysia as well as do contract assembly for a few brands have recently announced their plans for the near future. The company is basically geared up to be one of the major players in Malaysia's efforts to become a regional manufacturing hub for electric vehicles (EV) both in terms of components, parts and complete built up vehicles. The first in line are fully electric buses which are to be launched by the end of this year.
One important step for Go Auto is that the company has been given a contract to supply electric buses worth RM30 million by the Melaka state government. The first batch of the vehicles is expected to be handed over in the end of 2017. This could be a first test for Go Auto who are also in serious negotiation with a few other parties for the supply of such buses.
Go Auto had decided to collaborate with companies like Microvast, a battery manufacturer for EV vehicles from the United States, and Higer bus manufacturer from China in order to fast track the project.
Microvast wasfounded in 2006, and is involved in design, development and manufacturing of ultra-fast charging, long-life battery power systems with superior safety for electric vehicles. Specifically designed to address the critical constraints currently facing electric vehicle development, our electric vehicle battery system solution paves the way for mass adoption of electric vehicles. They have their Headquarters in Texas, USA but manufacturing facilities are based in China.
The Higer Bus Company Limited, also known as Higer Bus, is a Chinese bus manufacturer based in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. It was established at the end of 1998 and is China's leading exporter of buses and coaches, whose units are available in more than 100 countries and territories in South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Russia, East Europe and the Americas.
This sounds like progress for Go Auto and the ongoing development push for EV here in Malaysia. It looks like there are companies taking the Malaysian government's push for EV and energy efficient vehicles under the National Automotive Policy taking ground now even in the commercial vehicle sector.
PRESS RELEASE
GO
AUTO SERIOUS IN DEVELOPING ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS, TO LAUNCH ELECTRIC BUSES END
OF 2017
Go Auto is now
on the right track in its efforts to transform Malaysia into a regional
manufacturing hub for electric vehicles (EV) and its components once electric
buses are introduced.
The company's
executive director Dato' SM Azli SM Nasimuddin Kamal said the EV prototypes are
near completion.
"Go Auto
has been given the trust to supply electric buses worth RM30 million by the
Melaka state government. The first batch of the vehicles is expected to be
handed over in the end of 2017.
"Go Auto is also in its final talks for several new projects involving the supply of electric buses," he said.
Consistent with
the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2014, Malaysia has set a Total Industry
Volume (TIV) of 1 million new units a year by 2020, including
10% for EV.
Go
Auto's involvement in developing EV and its high technology components is also
part of NAP 2014.
This indirectly puts Go Auto among the leading companies that are committed in developing the EV ecosystem.
"We
are proud for being given the trust. We are committed in developing the EV
components for the Malaysian and Asean markets.
"To
ensure that the production of the components goes smooth, we have decided to
collaborate with companies like Microvast, a battery manufacturer for EV
vehicles from the United States, and Higer bus manufacturer,"
Azli said.
