The new variant of the Toyota Innova, two new Fortuner variants and upgraded Hilux range are now officially on sale after bookings were opened sometime last month. These vehicles should be on display at most of the Toyota showrooms around the nation. The new models are the Toyota Innova 2.0X, the Toyota Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x4, Toyota Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x2 and basically the whole Toyota Hilux range officially sold in Malaysia by UMW Toyota (UMWT) has been upgraded.
Toyota INNOVA 2.0X
The new Toyota Innova 2.0X is an additional variant which is now the flagship of the Innova range here. This ever popular and robust, albeit a little basic in terms of chassis construction sports even more crossover styling than before. The main feature of this variant is the crossover styling that the Innova has been given. This is a good thing as the Innova has always looked a little like a SUV with tiny tyres and lots of seating inside.
So with the Innova 2.0X, looks and styling are improved over the other models. Aside from the exterior touches, the Innova 2.0X gets better eqiupment like LED lights, premium combination leather package, 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, Captain’s seats for the second row, and larger alloy rims. Of course, it still looks like you could fit larger wheels underneath those arches still (I wouldn't recommend it if you like feeling the pain hitting potholes on Malaysian roads).
There are also options for a better infotainment/navigation system, 360degree camera for ease of parking and a video recorder mounted on the rear view mirror.
Toyota Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x4 / 4x2
These are two new variants for the Malaysian Fortuner rance. The Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x4 and Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x2 bring the Fortuner 2.4 to have equipment closer to the larger engined Fortuner 2.7 SRZ 4x4 (pictured below).
The two new variants come with goodies like Bi-LED projector headlamps, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), 7 SRS Airbags, Automatic air-conditioning, Leather seats, and a Power Back Door. Also newly available are front LED-type fog lamps, and Cruise control.
UMWT have not stopped there. There are upgrades for all 4x4 Fortuners sold from now on. The Fortuner 2.7 SRZ 4x4 and Fortuner 2.4 VRZ 4x4 variants now come with Downhill Assist Control (DAC). All variants are also updated with rear disc brakes. These give and additional breadth of capabilities to the Fortuner.
There are options also available for the Fortuner. These include a better infotainment/navigation system, panoramic (360deg) view camera, blind spot monitor and well as a TRD bodykit (which you can see in the white Fortuner pics above).
By the way, these new generation of Fortuner also looks different from their Hilux counterparts. So whilst they are build on the same platform, they now do not look similar, which is a plus point for a SUV which is priced more than RM30,000-45,000 more than the Pick-up truck model.
Toyota HlLUX upgrades
As for the Hilux, it has been upgraded with a lot of equipment that has enhanced its off-road performance, convenience and safety. There are (still) 6 variants to suit different budgets and requirements, whether they are just for work or for personal use or a combination of both. The Hilux is now a much more complete vehicle than before from the looks of it.
Better interior equipment relating to convenience and comfort features which have been added following customer feedback and demand. These include cruise control, automatic air-conditioning, USB charging ports, and an additional vent to bring cool air to the rear passengers for a more comfortable journey.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) has now also been added to the Hilux 2.4G with manual transmission, along with HAC and A-TRC. The Hilux 2.8G also comes with Downhill Assist Control (DAC) to make driving down a steep slope easier and safer. Safety has been stepped up further by expanding the availability of 7 airbags to the 2.4G AT variant as well.
Additional Toyota accessories are available. The accessories include a Sports Bar, Bedliner, Solar and Security Tinting Film, Portable Tyre Pump, Tailgate Assist and the new Panoramic View Monitor which can provide 360deg views around the Hilux. Infotainment systems can also be upgraded to the DVD-AVN unit which includes GPS route navigation and a rearview camera. A TRD Aerokit package can also be added. Owners can also choose the new Tough Package, which combines a front bumper underguard with overfenders and a roof ornament to give the Hilux a bolder outlook.
UMWT Warranty
All of the above come with a 5-years warranty with unlimited mileage, subject to terms and conditions (Hilux warranty is 5-years warranty with 150,000km mileage).
From the looks of this you know that UMWT is now keeping quiet in terms of product development to keep things fresh in order to boost its sales and position in the non-national car market.
