Industry News: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Commercial Vehicles Team Up With Tekat Automotive College


Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Commercial Vehicles (MBMCV) recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tekat Automotive College which will firstly facilitate an eight-month training programme for selected Tekat Automotive College students. One of the ultimate goals of such a joint venture between the two entities is to eventually raise the level of skills training for youths in the Malaysia automotive workforce. This partnership follows a six-month discussion between Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Tekat Automotive College. 


This pilot programme, which is scheduled to be conducted in November 2017, will be conducted at the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Training Acedemy and will be officially known as Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme. It should be closely related to the actual training modules done by the training centre and will consist of theory and practical aspects. These include preventive maintenance, repair on difficult aggregate for various systems, and functions on drivetrain, chassis and electric system for Mercedes-Benz and FUSO commercial vehicles.

Students are required to undergo a Pre-enrollment Assessment which consists of a theory test and an interview in order to apply to Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme. The prerequisite for entry involves successful completion of SKM level 3, aged between 18 to 24 years old, with basic automotive knowledge, and most importantly, logical and problem solving thinking.

This initial first batch consists of15 students who have passed the Pre-enrollment Assesment from Tekat
Automotive College will undergo the eight-month course on commercial vehicles. Upon completion of the course, students will be certified as ‘MBCV Qualified Maintenance Technician’ and ‘Qualified FUSO Maintenance Technician’ with a guaranteed job placement for two years within the Mercedes-Benz nationwide dealer network.

This programme is actually on par with what it taught at the Academy and would actually give the students a head start in the field of automotive after market. Do note that aside from providing career opportunities, it also creates more skilled people in the market. When you enter the workforce with certain skill sets, doors open up for you. This helps the industry as a whole and it also assists companies like Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles to fast track recruitment of trainees via such colleges.

Youth In The Automotive Industry

 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
Commercial Vehicles (MBMCV) and Tekat Automotive College formalises a
commitment to upskill the youth of the nation in the automotive industry.
 The first batch of students will begin in November 2017, under Mercedes-Benz
Commercial Vehicles Apprenticeship Programme.

Puchong, Selangor, 25 October 2017 – Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Commercial
Vehicles (MBMCV) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
Tekat Automotive College to raise the level of skills training for youths in the
automotive workforce.
The MoU, signed by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Vice President, Commercial Vehicles,
Mr Albert Yee; and Senior Manager, CV After-Sales, Mr Tan Kien Kee; together with
Tekat Automotive College, Managing Director, Mr Liew Ee Kin; and Marketing
Director, Ms Meera Prasanna V; will facilitate an eight-month training programme
for selected Tekat Automotive College students.

Known as Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme, the
pilot programme will be conducted at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Training
Academy, and will consist of theory and practical aspects. These include

commercial vehicles.

“As the automotive industry grows, there is a need for skilled manpower, and it is
very important now to keep up with the times with the automotive technology
today. We see this partnership with Tekat Automotive College as a start of a strong
foundation for future teamwork in other areas and most importantly, leaving a
great impact on Malaysian youths and the automotive industry, commercial
vehicles sector,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Senior Manager, Mr Tan Kien Kee.

The Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme will be
conducted at the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Training Academy. Launched earlier
this year, the Training Academy features a fully operational workshop for real world
workplace simulation and state-of-the-art training rooms purposefully built and
equipped according to the latest Daimler AG Global Training standard. Todate, this
new establishment has trained over 30 CV students who have proceeded to jobs in
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s nationwide dealership network.

In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme is
designed to push students further in their thinking skills and encourage them to be
pro-active in their learning. The programme also includes service and parts
marketing and warranty training to ensure that the students are well prepared with
the latest warranty guidelines and its processes before entering the automotive
industry. During the course, students are also given a monthly allowance of
RM1,200 and On-The-Job Training which provides invaluable hands-on experience
in preparation of their career.

This partnership follows a six-month discussion between Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
and Tekat Automotive College. The Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle
Apprenticeship Programme is expected to commence in November 2017.
