Industry News: PROTON appoints a new CEO for Proton Edar

Proton has appointed the dapper looking chap in the photograph above as the new CEO of its sales and marketing arm, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd. Mr Abdul Rashid Musa replaces outgoing CEO Mr Rohime Shafie effective 1st of February 2017. Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief Technical Officer of PROTON where he held several portfolios, including being instrumental in the development of the four new models in 2016 (the Perdana, Persona, Saga and Ertiga).

Rashid has close to three decades of experience in the automotive field, with involvement in various automotive projects and organisations (from the DRB-Hicom assembly plant(s) in Pekan, Pahang to even Honda in Melaka). He graduated in 1989, with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malaya (a time when most Malaysian qualification was actually worth its weight in gold). According to Proton, Rashid was involved not just in areas of manufacturing, research & development; and management, but he is also a strong advocate of passenger safety and has given talks in the education of passenger safety and importance of regulations on safe vehicles in the country.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief Technical Officer of PROTON where he held several portfolios, including being instrumental in the development of the four new models in 2016. He sits on the Board of several PROTON subsidiaries and was previously the head of several companies for within DRB-HICOM Group.

I have met Rashid many times over the past few years. A very enthusiastic chap and one who knows his stuff. Passionate too. Now the question is whether I should ask him technical stuff or sales and marketing stuff the next time I bump into him. Maybe a bit of both. When in doubt, ask everything.
