PT PROTON Edar Indonesia, the official distributors of Proton cars in Indonesia had recently  launched Proton Iriz hatchback at FX Sudirman Mall, Senayan. Two variants are made available to the Indonesian market, 1.3L MT Standard and 1.3L CVT Standard, priced at IDR175,250,000 an IDR185,283,000, respectively. The cars will sold in 7 colours, Cotton White, Midnight Black, Sterling Silver, Atlantic Blue, Graphite Grey, Citrus Green and Fire Red.

The launch was officiated by Dato' Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON in the presence of Dato' Madani Sahari, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Automotive Institute, Mohd Khalid Yusof, Director of Transformation and Head of International Sales, PROTON, Naim Abdul Rahman, MATRADE Advisor at The Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia and Yanuarto Widihandono, Secretary General of Indonesia Otomotif Institute.

It looked like a big event. I have to say that even with the ongoing search for a foreign partner, PROTON is still forging ahead with pushing its cars abroad. Business is still going on as usual.  Small numbers for the moment but it is better than nothing. This is the second foreign market after Brunei for the Iriz and let's hope that PROTON will launch more of its cars in markets overseas.

Proton Edar Indonesia is hopeful that consumers in  Indonesia will be interested in the Iriz especially with the launch promotions at all of its 25 sales outlets. After this, there will also be a preview of the Iriz at Makassar, Sulawesi, on 19 February 2017 (Indonesia is an nation of islands - it is a big deal promoting a car an island away). Bookings were open since 16 February 2017 onwards, from 10am to 10pm daily at the FX Mall until 22 February

Jakarta, 18 February, 2017 – PROTON Holdings Berhad ("PROTON" or "the Company") via its subsidiary in Indonesia, PT PROTON Edar Indonesia ("PEI"), officially launched Proton Iriz at FX Sudirman Mall (“FX Mall”), Senayan today. The car, which has been on display in the Mall since 16 February 2017, will continue to be on display until 22 February 2017.

Following the Iriz media preview and test drive on Thursday, 9 February 2017 in Sentul, Bogor, PEI is keen to officially introduce the latest compact hatchback in the City Car segment to consumers in Jakarta and on 19 February 2017 to consumers in Makassar, Sulawesi.

Indonesia is the second country after Brunei to import this fun-in-size, big-on-safety Iriz. Fun aside, this car packs a host of advanced safety features to complement PROTON's signature ride and handling. Two variants are made available to the Indonesian market, 1.3L MT Standard and 1.3L CVT Standard, priced at IDR175,250,000 and IDR185,283,000, respectively.

“Proton Iriz is well-equipped in terms of safety features. Both variants are fitted with active and passive safety features. In fact, Iriz is the only compact hatchback City Car segment below IDR350 million that is equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Coupled with traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, hill hold assist (HHA) and a seat belt reminder (SBR) system, these safety features are usually installed in the higher-end premium cars. In addition, PROTON also used the Hot Press Forming (HPF) steel technology from Germany to heighten the safety features of the car. The HPF steel provides up to 5 times more strength than normal steel for higher body rigidity to strengthen the cabin to give better protection to the passengers,” said Dato’ Fuaad.

“Indonesia is an important market for PROTON. Not only have we maintained strong G2G relations being ASEAN founding members, but we also share many similarities in terms of people, language, culture as well as the weather. It’s almost an extension of each other,” Dato' Fuaad added.

"PEI is supported by a total of 25 sales and after sales outlets in Indonesia. Customers will be able to get up close and personal with the Proton Iriz in all our sales outlets from 20 February. In terms of after sales services, we have 24 service outlets in strategic locations across Java, Kalimantan, Sumatera and Sulawesi, with 8 of them centred around Jabodetabek region. All the maintenance need will be provided by these service centres," Fuaad continued.

Since its debut, Proton Iriz received many awards and accolades from the automotive industry in Malaysia. Among those, is a 5-Star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme ("ASEAN NCAP"). The Iriz was also recognised as the Most Affordable 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Car in Malaysia at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Award 2016; Budget Car Of The Year at the 2016 ASEAN Car of The Year Awards; Best Industrial Design 2015 by Intellectual Property Corporation; Malaysia Good Design Mark Award 2014 by the Malaysia Design Council; and the People's Choice Award at the New Straits Times' Car of the Year 2014.
