Land Rover has brought the Above and Beyond Tour to Malaysia. This year’s tour will be held in Penang and Kuala Lumpur where it will allow participants a chance to experience first-hand the world famous capability and composure of what a Land Rover is. It takes place today and tomorrow in Penang (the 10th & 11th November - yes, a little late but if you catch this news there is tomorrow) and the 17th & 18th November 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. Details are at the end of this article folks!
The Above and Beyond Tour 2018 here in Malaysia will have participants take on a series of custom-made obstacles that have been designed to simulate the challenging terrain of the great outdoors. Those lucky ones who ahve registered to participate will come under the guidance of Land Rover Experience instructors abd they will be able to drive either the beautifully styled Range Rover Velar or the practical Discovery Sport through a 15m long and 600mm deep wading pool, side slope and a bumpy course section. The off-road driving experience concludes on a sideway tilt on the side slope course which has an almost a 45° angle.
All of the obstacles will enable participants to appreciate first-hand Land Rover’s water wading capabilities, its Terrain Response® system and the well engineered chassis, which enables the vehicle to conquer the most difficult of terrain. So it will be interesting, yet safe for something which simulates the deepest, jungles of Malaysia or the deserts of the Sahara.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take on three fun challenges that could win them a once-in-a-lifetime driving adventure on the Above and Beyond Tour Grand Finale in New Zealand. Last year, some lucky participant ended up in Cambodia and a chance to win a trip to South America if we remember correctly. So it is a chance of a lifetime.
The first of these is the Ring Fenced challenge, where participants have three minutes to drive into an enclosed circular space, make a complete 180° turn and exit the course. The second is the Auto Test challenge, which consists of a narrow ‘L’-shaped bend; participants will have three minutes to navigate the course, before having to reverse and return to their initial starting position.
Thefinal challenge is entitled “What’s Wrong with My Car”. This challenge, challenges participants to identify missing parts or non-functioning features on a Land Rover display vehicle. The participant with the best score from both the Penang and Kuala Lumpur events will be the overall winner from Malaysia.
This is quite interesting for those who are into Land Rover. I personally had a go at the inaugural Land Rover experience last year and it was pretty good fun trying out the challenges as well as the obstacle run. Do register and head over for some Land Rover fun!
