Naza Quest Ceases Distributorship of Chevrolet Vehicles - Will Still Handle All After Sales Until New Distributor is Announced

We've just received official word from the official distributors of Chevrolet here, Nasa Quest Sdn Bhd. They have announced that they will stop distributing new Chevrolet vehicles.

They have also stated that will continue to provide warranty and aftersales service for existing Chevrolet customers, until the appointment of a new Chevrolet distributor here. We suppose this is the obligations under an agreement between Naza Quest and General Motors (GM) as part of being the distributors for the American brand.

Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd had clarified that the move is part of Naza Group’s future strategy. He mentioned that the group decided to cease distributing new Chevrolet vehicles as part of the Naza group's brand rationalisation plan which covers their overall corporate strategy to create long term sustainability and profitability.

Dato' Samson added that the group will continue to focus on their other four and two-wheel brands and maximize their complete automotive line-up as well as explore other business opportunities to expand its market share in the automotive industry.

Of course, sans Chevrolet, unfortunately. But the official statement also said that GM and Chevrolet remain committed to Malaysia, which according to them still has strong growth potential and a loyal fan base in this regional market.

Chevrolet, or GM, has also stated that they will resume sales of its world-class vehicle portfolio in Malaysia as soon as possible and is in advanced discussions with potential new partners. A new master distributor partner will be announced once this happens.

The cessation of Naza Quest’s Chevrolet new car business operations will take effect from 15 November, 2018 but as stated above, after sales will continue to be carried out by Naza Quest.

They have stated that the majority of Chevrolet dealerships will remain open during this transition to meet the aftersales needs of Chevrolet customers. Naza Quest states that they will continue serving Chevrolet customers at selected existing dealer points, offering customers continuity of vehicle service, parts, warranty and aftersales service in Malaysia.

Vanchana Unakul, General Director of GM Southeast Asia, had this to sat about GM and Chevrolet’s commitment to Malaysia and Chevrolet’s customers, “Chevrolet is here to stay in Malaysia and we will be announcing our new distributor partner as soon as possible.”

“I’d also like to thank Naza Quest for their partnership and dedication to the Chevrolet brand over many years,” added Unakul.

For industry observers, this would not be a surprise. Rumours were already floating around over the past six months or so. The last big push hy Chevrolet here was the upgraded Chevrolet Colorado which you see in the opening photo above. Quite competitively priced but the pickup truck market here is filled with many equally good competitors. We remember Naza Quest pushing out contests which tied up Chevy and football, sending winners to the UK to watch some games. Of course, the catch is you had to buy a Chevy in the first place. Many didnt buy into this. So for now, Chevrolet is down and out here in Malaysia.
