The Volvo XC90 T5 is Now Offered in Malaysia - 2.0Liter 254hp Turbocharged Petrol Engine Instead of the XC90 T8's Hybrid Powertrain

Volvo Car Malaysia has added another variant of their innovative and extremely popular Volvo XC90 here. The Volvo XC90 T5 is the latest variant of their 7-seater premium SUV line-up. It joins the XC90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription and Inscription Plus.

This gives more options to those interested in the Volvo XC90 at a slightly more affordable price range as well as offering another powertrain to the XC90 line-up. One without the use of their Plug-In Hybrid system (which is extremely good, mind you).

The new, 'entry level' XC90 T5 is powered by Volvo’s Drive-E engine. It gets the 2-litre turbocharged engine makes 254 hp and 350 Nm torque. No 400 over horses or 640Nm torque, but still enough to enable a 0-100kmh time of 7.9 s. Volvo claims that its fuel consumption is still an efficient 7.9 litres per 100 km (NEDC, combined cycle).

The new Volvo XC90 T5 will be priced at RM373,888 (on-the-road, without insurance, inclusive of excise duty and sales tax). It is definitely more affordable than the XC90 T8 which starts off at RM403,000 onwards.

The good thing is that despite the reduction, the XC90 T5 will still be offered with all the IntelliSafe systems available in the XC90 T8 Twin Engine. So, it will be as safe as its more powerful T8 sibling. Of course, power isn't always everything. Good to have, but in an urban commute, not really necessary. So this variant makes sense if you have a lower budget.

Volvo Car Malaysia states that prospective customers will now get to choose an additional interior colour and three new exterior colours for the entire XC90 range:

The new Interior Upholstery Options are Maroon Brown  as well as the already available (in the T8) Charcoal Black. Exterior Colour Options for the XC90 T5 include Chrystal White (NEW), Denim Blue (NEW), Maple Brown (NEW) which will complement Luminous Sand and Onyx Black.

So more choices are offered now for those interested. Better of us buyers, yes?

Exterior and Interior Colour Choices (guess which is which)...
