The NSLOA Trucking Carnival 2018 (With Short Video Coverage) - Trucking Carnival Returns After 7 Long Years

The Negeri Sembilan Lorry Operators' Association (NSLOA), one of the longest running automotive related associations here in the country had recently organised the NSLOA Trucking Carnival 2018. The two-day trucking related carnival was held at the D’Tempat Country Club, which is located in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan.

About 26 local and international sponsors (like Isuzu, Scania, Shell, Volvo Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles, MAN and other brands),  and exhibitors from the heavy vehicle industry also participated in the carnival which featured a showcase of products and services as well as informative seminars on truck safety by SKF Malaysia, Guardian South East Asia Pte Ltd and Hong Seng Group.

The NSLOA Trucking Carnival was last held about seven years ago. Seven years is a long time and the trucking carnival or truck show was held with the aim for market players and NSLOA members to network among themselves. The NSLOA also feel that is it important to maintain a close connection with their suppliers, members and customers.

The carnival is also a way for NSLOA to introduce their new office bearers for the current term. All of this and as a means to also raise some funds for the association which only charges a one time lifetime membership fee for its members without any monthly or yearly subscription fees. So this is a trucking carnival with a worthy cause.

The NSLOA Trucking Carnival 2018 was officially opened by The Honourable Choo Ken Hwa (seen to the right of Mr. Lee Hung Yang, President of NSLOA), the elected representative of Lukut District who is also the EXCO member of the Negeri Sembilan State Government. He spent a good couple of hours touring all the display booths and spent some time answering some questions with members of the media and the office bearers of the NSLOA.

The two day event ended on saturday, 29th September 2018 with a gala dinner on the second night together with Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Malaysia’s Minister of Transport. The dinner was also held in conjunction with NSLOA’s celebration of its 84th anniversary.

Speaking about the NSLOA, the Negeri Sembilan Lorry Operator’s Association was founded way back in 1934 under the name of NS Motor Service Association. It was officially registered under the Registrar of Societies in 1950 and in 1979, became the founding member of the Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners Association.

In tandem with the modernisation and ever demanding transport industry, NS Motor Service opened its doors to all lorry operators in 1983 and its name was changed to Negeri Sembilan Lorry Operator’s Association. This is one association which has seen most of the changes in Malaysia. From Malaya, its independence and till today. I also believe that some of the grand-children of the founding members are now the current office bearers of the association. Amazing history here folks.

Lee Hung Yang, President of NSLOA said, “As one of Malaysia’s oldest lorry operator association, we want to set an example as a progressive association that can safeguard our members’ interest and help them compete locally and internationally. We will continue to work collaboratively with both the public and private sector to ensure our members’ voices are heard and are well represented in discussions with government agencies, suppliers and customers”.

He also explained that NSLOA will be carrying out several improvements this year to enable its members to remain competitive and to help enhance the standard in the trucking industry. Among the changes, is the debut of NSLOA’s website which will provide vital information to its members related to the trucking industry. Members can login to get information about meetings with government agencies and upcoming seminar and events, as well as view training and transport-related articles.

One can see that there are changes being made to this long established association. Mr Lee is actually quite young in terms of his age when compared to the other current office bearers of the association. It does somewhat show to me that the association is willing to hand over the reins to someone with youth and vigor on his side. It does show that the NSLOA wants to be relevant and remain at the forefront of the trucking industry here in Negeri Sembilan and also throughout the country.

Aside from that, I spent the whole of the first day at the carnival and it was a good mix of local and international suppliers - from tyre suppliers, parts suppliers to the usual big boys from the truck manufacturers/distributors and very established suppliers like the Yon Ming Group. There was also a whole lot of China made trucks on display, like JMC, FAW, CAMC, Hanvan and more. Here is a short video showing a little bit of the event (for those that like moving pictures).

The event was like a mini MCVE, which is the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Exhibition. That event is usually held every other year over in Mines, Kuala Lumpur. Of course, the only difference is the size and this was outdoors, and held at a very nice country club in the middle of Negeri Sembilan.
