Shell Malaysia, under their trading arm, Shell MalaysiaTrading Sdn Bhd has introduced the new ‘Made for Malaysia’ labels for official genuine Shell Helix products. The new labeling with the 'Made for Malaysia' wording is meant for sale in Malaysia. The Shell Helix engine oil packaging comes with the new easy to identify labels which has a unique QR code for authentication by the consumer. This is a move by Shell Malaysia to protect consumers and try help them to avoid counterfeit or fake Shell Helix products which are on the market.
Engine oil counterfeiting is actually quite rampant. There are lots of unscrupulous traders out there who actually package low quality engine oil or even used oils and sell them in the market. With the new labeling system which has a QR Code allowing consumers to verify themselves, Shell Malaysia hopes to lessen this issue. Of course, this will not wipe out such thievery, but it will try keep Shell one step ahead of these counterfeiters.
The new front label has a portion which can be peeled back to reveal a unique QR code for quick product authentication, while the label at the back features information in English and Bahasa Malaysia. The QR code also enables easy registration for the Shell Advantage Rewards (SHARE) programme which rewards customers with goodies that include a sign-up bonus, Shell Helix Engine Warranty (SHEW) and free Shell Helix products (terms and conditions apply). So, one must note that Shell Malaysia not only offers added security measures but also a customer reward scheme - Where the most tantalising would be the buy three 4 liter packs of Shell Helix Ultra and get 1 Free.
The ‘Made for Malaysia’ Shell Helix range was officially launched by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, The Honourable Dato' Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail. Also present was Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Basaruddin Sadali, Deputy Secretary- General (Domestic Trade), Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism.
Shell Malaysia Managing Director, Shairan Huzani Husain had stated at the launch event that the move is a
strategic investment by the company to protect the interests of both car owners and trade partners by enabling them to clearly identify official genuine products.
“The presence of counterfeit and unauthorised products in the market is affecting customer confidence and negatively impacting our trade partners’ businesses. The decision to commence local production of official genuine Shell Helix products meant exclusively for the Malaysian market and clearly identify them with the new ‘Made for Malaysia’ labels, is a key step to address this issue,” said Shairan.
Now aside from just slapping on new labels on the Shell Helix products, all Shell Helix products launched today are now blended and packed at Shell’s Lubricant Oil Blending Plant at Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. So they could also come with a 'Blended in Malaysia' or 'Made in Malaysia' tag too. More local business for our boys in P.D.
Shell Malaysia has also stated that there are no changes to the formulations of the Made for Malaysia Shell Helix engine oils and customers will continue to enjoy ultimate engine performance, even in extreme driving conditions. So it is basically the same Shell Helix engine oils that are already available in the Malaysian market but blended in Malaysia.
The new ‘Made for Malaysia’ labels will be featured on five best-selling Shell Helix products for the moment.
1. Shell Helix Ultra 5W 40 (4L)
2. Shell Helix HX7 10W 40 (4L)
3. Shell Helix HX7 5W 30 (4L)
4. Shell Helix HX5 10W 30 (3L)
5. Shell Helix HX5 15W 40 (4L).
Shell Malaysia also states that introduction of Shell Helix products with ‘Made for Malaysia’ labels is ongoing and is expected to be completed by January 2019. During this transition period, official genuine Shell Helix products with old labels would still be on sale and can be authenticated through the unique product code on the label.
The official genuine Shell Helix engine oils for the Malaysian market can be purchased from Shell Helix-branded workshops, selected workshops served by authorised Shell distributors and Shell retail stations. They are also available online at Lazada Malaysia, 11street and Shopee via Shell Malaysia’s official online stores.
We do suggest you buy from the authorised resellers on these online shopping stores. Why? Well, to protect your investment of course. 1. Peel the label to reveal the QR code: Scan the QR code that is affixed on Shell Helix bottle’s
label which leads to the SHARE product verification page.
2. Complete your details and submit: Submit your mobile number, vehicle ID, product code and
shop code (*Shop code is featured on the SHARE poster shown in the participating SHARE
outlets).
3. Authentication result: Authentication result will be shown on the page and sent through SMS.
