Lexus Malaysia are now offering a new variant of the very cutting edge looking Lexus RX300 SUV. The RX300 Special Edition is essentially the RX300 Luxury variant but has additional accessories fitted to it. The RX300 Special Edition is priced from RM434,000 onwards inclusive of SST and it about RM10,000 more than the RX300 Luxury.
The new Lexus RX300 Special Edition gets an underbody panel up front which provides additional protection from stones and other small objects thrown up from the road.
It also gets body mouldings on the side too. The lower side mouldings are integrated with the new one-piece side steps on either side at the bottom of the front and rear doors. This should make it easier for almost everyone to step in and out of the RX300. Even for short ladies visiting SPRM.
There are also custom door visors installed on the tops of the windows to prevent rainwater from entering the cabin if the glass is wound down slightly. These official Lexus options are shaped to have minimal effect on airflow while allowing the glass to be lowered slightly even when there is rain.
The rear cargo space gets a step guard which is installed near the lower edge of the rear door opening. It covers nearly the full width of the rear opening and provides some protection for the upper part of the rear bumper so it will not be scratched or stained when loading or unloading cargo.
There is also a Lexus logo Welcome Door Lamp which comes on whenever the doors are opened. The lamp illuminates the area near the door so that puddles of water or potholes can be seen and avoided. It also allows you to show off to your friends that you are just stepping in (or out) from your Lexus.
Aside from the usual cosmetic touches above, Lexus Malaysia have fitted a Touch’n Go reader/transmitter and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) in the RX300 Special Ed. The Touch’n Go device is compatible with Touch’n Go cards and can be used for passage through the SMART TAG lanes at toll plazas nationwide.
Unlike the third-party accessories which are usually stuck on the windscreen, the DVR for the RX300 Special Edition is installed securely behind the rearview mirror for a much neater look.
All the additional accessories fitted in the Lexus RX300 Special Edition are genuine Lexus accessories and meet the same high standards of quality and reliability of a Lexus. All accessory installation is done by professionally trained personnel at UMW Toyota Motor’s own Accessories Centre in Bukit Raja, Selangor.
The Lexus RX300 Special Edition is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (Toyota's 8AR-FTS engine - Lexus is Toyota's luxury car arm). The engine makes 235 ps and 350 Nm torque. It is all wheel drive and the power runs through a 6-speed Super Electronically Controlled Transaxle (6 ECT) automatic transmission.
The Lexus RX300 Special Edition comes with a comprehensive factory warranty of 5 years/Unlimited mileage (whichever comes first after original registration). Complete aftersales support is available at 7 locations in Malaysia (including one in Kuching, Sarawak) for peace of mind.
The car is also fully imported, and as it is a Lexus, you do get a level up from the usual Japanese car after sales support. It's a Lexus, so you will get Japanese reliability with that premium car experience. Can't go wrong with that.
