The Perodua Alza compact MPV has just been facelifted. The nation’s most popular and most affordable seven-seater Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) has been updated for 2018 and beyond with slightly different looks in line with the current Perodua styling and new equipment inside. This is the second time Perodua has facelifted and improved the Alza though.
This is a facelift, not a total model change like the recent Myvi. This is the same Alza compact MPV we are familiar with but it does get spruced up on the outside. BUT only for the higher specced SE and Advance variants. These two get a slightly different front bumper with a larger lower air intake, a new front grille design, new side skirts, a slightly different looking rear bumper and a some differently styled tailgate trimming.
New to all Perodua Alza variants are the redesigned instrument panel graphics, a new-look centre instrument cluster and a two-motion remote control key - press once to unlock driver’s door, double-press to unlock all doors.
The air-conditioning system has been improved a fair bit! The air-vents now flow better to the third row seats because there are now fixed fins between the front centre air vents (i.e the middle part does not move) - thus helping people feel cooler right at the rear. There is also an improved evaporator and enhanced heat-exchange piping for the air-conditioning unit so that it can keep occupants cooler in the Malaysian heat. This is I think the most important improvement for Alza users. It may be a compact MPV, but it actually needed more air vents to push air to the rear. This is a compromise that is welcomed.
As for sporty and practical bits inside and outside, all Alza variants get front fog lamps, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, solar and security window film, reverse sensors and 15-inch alloys that are finished in silver on the Standard variant and titanium on SE and Advance variants.
The Alza standard and SE variants get a new audio system with USB and Bluetooth functionality (well, it is 2018 you know). The SE and Advance variants get new-designed leather seats and front corner sensors, while the Advance gets extra equipment like a roof-mounted monitor and an Android-based touch-screen multimedia system with Smart Link, Bluetooth, navigation and reverse camera functions.
The new 2018 onwards Perodua Alza is priced from RM51,490 to RM62,690 (OTR without insurance). The variants are the Standard (MT), Standard (AT), SE (AT) and Advance (AT) variants. All are powered by a 1.5 litre 3SZ-VE DVVT engine which is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission on the Standard MT and a four-speed automatic transmission on all other variants.
Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin said, “Our latest Perodua Alza continues to offer the comfort, practicality, versatility and ample room for seven that Malaysians have loved and adored for nearly a decade.”
“With an abundance of storage compartments and flexible seating configurations, the latest Alza is perfect for family outings and everyday use in line with its ‘Versatile as You’ tagline,” he said,
Dr Zahari also added that over 344,200 units have been sold since the Alza’s birth in 2009 making it the a very popular compact MPV for Malaysians
Aside from the above, Perodua also introduced its GearUp accessory range for the Alza. This first time ever Perodua official accessories for the Alza include exterior cosmetic add-ons, quilted seat covers and sun shades.
The new Perodua Alza is fitted with dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist and ISOFIX child seat points in the middle row are standard across the Alza line-up, netting all variants a four-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
So it seems it is the equipment levels that have been notably improved and updated for 2018. The Perodua Alza was first launched in 2009 then went through a facelift in 2014. This is the second time the Alza has been facelifted and this would mean that the Alza will soldier on for at least a year a least before we will see a total model change.
This is of course quite logical as no company would do a total change a few months after unveiling a facelifted vehicle. No matter how slight. But that being said, this is Perodua. They move way faster than other Malaysian car companies - remember how fast they changed the lower bit of the rear bumper on the Bezza after they received some criticism on how it sat on the road? So we could be seeing a new Alza a year from now. Who knows.
You can start placing your order for the facelifted Alza at all Perodua showrooms nationwide in stages beginning 6th September 2018. There should be display and test drive units slowly being registered at all Perodua showrooms nationwide after the 6th.
The latest Perodua Alza is offered with a five-year/150,000 km warranty (whichever comes first). Available colours are Granite Grey (new to the Alza, exclusive to SE and Advance variants), Ivory White, Glittering Silver, Mystical Purple and Electric Blue.
