The 53rd edition of the Jelajah Malaysia cycling tournament started earlier today. This historical 5-day cycling event which will see riders from all over the world compete over five states through three states in Peninsular Malaysia - Selangor, Perak and Kedah. This time around, UMW Toyota Motor are the main vehicle sponsors, where 30 or so units of various Toyota and Lexus models are to be used to ferry competitors, personnel and their equipment around.
Quite a refreshing change from the usual vehicle launches this time around. I have been witnessing so many of this until it is refreshing watching men in tights using pedal power start a race. Hmm..that didn't come out right....
Anyway, the latest Toyota models were on display at the launch event. All were fitted with some sort of bicycle carrier. Of course, it is a bicycle event. A kayak would be out of place even though you could carry one actually.
This year’s Jelajah Malaysia will be held between 3rd and 7th October 2017 and run along Peninsular Malaysia’s west coast and is scheduled to finish in Alor Setar. The event features 108 local and international cyclists from 18 teams competing over the five stages. There will be nine Malaysian teams in this event.
