The Land Rover Experience 2017 Malaysian Qualification Rounds - 8th to the 10th September 2017 at Desa Parkcity - Head over to view and maybe try out for Peru, South America

I was at the opening of the Malaysian qualification round of the Land Rover Experience Tour 2017 to Peru, South America. It was quite an interesting little event that showcases the capabilities of the Land Rover vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) had provided the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport to use in the try outs as well as go through man made mobile terrains that simulate off-road terrain.

The media was just there to try out and feel just a bit of what can be experienced if you participate and qualify for the drive in Peru. Basically, There will be series of local qualification events which will be held across South East Asia (and the world), with the top participant from each market winning a spot in the regional finals.

The local qualification events will comprise of driving and non-driving challenges; entrants will be tested on precision, speed and problem solving abilities. If you make the cut, you will head over to Laos for the the regional finals which will be held in September 2017. Peru comes after that if you make the final cut, which will be from the 4th to the 9th of November 2017.

There are also two challenges which are tough. One is making a three point turn in a tight circle and the other, head to a 'L' shaped turn and then reverse without hitting any of the cones under a specified time. This was tough. Tougher than the obstacle course laid out for us. But these are Land Rovers, so slopes, bumps and gradients are nothing much for them.

Now if you are still interested, I heard there are some spots available today (saturday 9th) and on Sunday (10th September). If you want to try out for the chance of a lifetime, you can try head over to Desa Parkcity.

Even if you don't intend to try out, there are some nice Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles on display. The highlight are the remaining Land Rover Defender that are still available on sale. One must remember that Jaguar Land Rover has stopped producing the Defender. This is the last few units available for someone to purchase.
