Ford and their Malaysian distributors, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) have launched a stripped down, back to basics Ford Ranger pick-up truck. Dubbed the Ford Ranger XL Standard, this is the new base model here in Malaysia. At RM83,588 on the road in Peninsular Malaysia and RM89,388 in East Malaysia, it makes the ever popular Ranger even more affordable to the masses.
This is Ford and SDAC answering the call for a more basic Ranger. Affordability is now in demand due to tough times these days and this is the answer according to them. Whist an affordable model, it still is packed with features. It has a 2.2L TDCi diesel engine, which makes 125PS of power and 320Nm of torque. It has a 6-speed manual transmission and 4x4 shift on the fly (ESOF).
This simple Ranger XL still comes with two airbags and other safety features - Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Reverse Sensors, Remote keyless entry, Side Steps, Rear Cargo Load Rest and Inner and Outer Truck Bed Tie Downs to name a few. Basic isn't as basic as those days.
It may look basic, but it isn't in terms of equipment. The Ranger XL Standard is available in two colours, including Cool White and Meteor Grey. Well, two colours offered for a base model is pretty good, especially since this was the company that said "You can have your Model T in any colour, as long as its black'.
