Volvo Car Malaysia introduces the Volvo V40 T5 with latest Drive-E powertrain - 2.0liter, 245hp & 350Nm

Volvo Car Malaysia have announced that the award-winning Drive-E powertrain is now available for the Volvo V40 T5 here in Malaysia. The V40 basically gets the latest engine that Volvo has to offer and in typical European fashion, the engine and transmission upgrades would come at any time during a model's life cycle. The introduction of the Drive-E engine to the Volvo V40 range completes Volvo’s new powertrain rollout in Malaysia.

The Drive-E powertrain in the V40 T5 is one of Volvo's latest 2.0liter 4 cylinder engines (pictured above). It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission (pictured below). The V40 T5 Drive-E produces a maximum output of 245 hp (180 kW) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,500 rpm to 4,800 rpm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h performance of only 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. This actually allows this unassuming premium hatchback to easily keep up with most of the German and French hot hatches out there and more.

The V40 T5 Drive-E improves on its predecessor by recording better fuel consumption at 6.1 l/100 km (fuel efficiency at 16.4 km/l) and lower emissions at 143 g/km, this is despite producing 32 hp and 50 Nm more power than the previous T5 ( which we happened to try out in the Cross Country form) and also because it has two more extra gears and a better spread of gear ratios compared to the previous V40 T5. The new powertrain offers a better balance of performance, lower emissions and fuel consumption

This V40 T5 also comes with a lot of safety features. It's a Volvo. So you get Park Assist Pilot, Enhanced Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Cross Traffic Alert, City Safety - active up to 50 km/h. I especially like City Safety which will pounce on the brakes automatically if an object suddenly crosses its path. More details are actually down below in the official Press Release.

The V40 T5 is available in five exterior colours: Ice White, Ember Black, Raw Copper, Bright Silver and Osmium Grey, and is available for orders or viewing at all authorised Volvo dealers nationwide.

The retail price (MSRP, on-the-road, without insurance, inclusive of GST) for the Volvo V40 T5 Drive-E is RM192,888.00, which includes a 5-year warranty and 5 years of Volvo-on-Call Roadside Assist.

The price seems reasonable for a close to 250hp hatchback. Again I think this is great value for money. Can't seem to think of another premium or near premium hatchback that offers so much performance brand new at under RM200,000. Something to think about folks. And you can go look up some PoleStar bits for it later too.

Volvo Car Malaysia announces availability of Drive-E powertrain for the Volvo V40 T5

The introduction of the Drive-E engine to the Volvo V40 range completes Volvo’s new

powertrain rollout in Malaysia

Blue is for illustration purposes only

KUALA LUMPUR – Volvo’s award-winning Drive-E powertrains, known for offering a

good blend of performance, lower emissions and fuel consumption, is now available for

the Volvo V40 T5.

Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the V40 T5 Drive-E produces a

maximum output of 245 hp (180 kW) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,500

rpm to 4,800 rpm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h performance of only 6.3 seconds and

a top speed of 240 km/h.

“Our main goal during the development of the Drive-E powertrains was to deliver

efficient driving pleasure – powerful engines that consumes less fuel and emits lower

emissions,” said Lennart Stegland, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

The V40 T5 Drive-E certainly improves on the figures set by its predecessor by

recording better fuel consumption at 6.1 l/100 km (fuel efficiency at 16.4 km/l) and lower

emissions at 143 g/km, this is despite producing 32 hp and 50 Nm more power.

Stegland added that the V40 T5 already offers the best, in-class active safety features,

such as, City Safety, Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert and Park Assist

Pilot; the addition of a new powertrain will only serve to strengthen Volvo’s market offer.

The retail price (MSRP, on-the- road, without insurance, inclusive of GST) for the Volvo

V40 T5 Drive-E is RM192,888.00, which includes a 5-year warranty and 5 years of

Volvo-on- Call Roadside Assist.

The V40 T5 is available in five exterior colours: Ice White, Ember Black, Raw Copper, Bright

Silver and Osmium Grey, and is available for orders or viewing at all authorised Volvo dealers

nationwide.

EXTERIOR

Low and wide front design

The classic V-shaped bonnet is further enhanced by bolder, expressive lines. The high-gloss grille is low

and wide in order to create a sporty, close-to- the-ground feel. The lower opening is surrounded at the

corners by sculpted bodywork, stretching from one wheel arch to the other. The sculptured corners not

only add character, they also direct the airflow to improve aerodynamics. Daytime Running Lights are set

into the lower corners of the front end, sweeping upward from direct front view.

Wide shoulder and dynamic profile

The wide shoulder line stretches back from the headlamp with a sharp line to echo the rising beltline. As it

reaches the end of the rear door it sweeps up into an integrated "hook", inherited from the legendary

P1800. The highlight continues rearward into a very full powerful section that resolves into the tail lamps.

The roof silhouette contributes to the impression of a car leaning forward - eager to take off. The car is

finished with a dynamically sculpted rear to further emphasise its width and muscular stance, with the

lower area "blacked out" to achieve an athletic, low and wide look.

INTERIOR

Designed around people

The interior of the Volvo V40 is designed with a strong emphasis on ergonomics, comfort and an

engaging driving experience. The wide instrument panel, together with the fluidity of the door design,

creates a spacious, "large-car" feeling. The interior is designed to offer the driver and passengers
a spacious and relaxing atmosphere with a true Scandinavian flavour.

Adaptive digital display

The fully graphic, adaptive digital display instrument cluster, expresses emotional functionality, always

displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver. The driver can

choose between three graphic themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance.

CHASSIS & POWER TRAINS

Dynamic chassis standard

The Dynamic chassis is standard. The rigid body and low centre of gravity promote an alert, quick-

responding character that focuses on the driving experience, yet without compromising ride comfort.

Steering with precise response

The steering column's thick tubing and stiff insulator increase torsional rigidity. This also contributes to the

enhanced feeling of direct contact with the wheels and the road. The Electrical Power Assist Steering

(EPAS) uses an electrical motor to support the steering rack and the driver can choose between three

levels of power assistance.

New Drive-E Engines

The V40 T5 is equipped with the four-cylinder Drive-E petrol engine that outputs 245 hp and 350 Nm of

torque with the help of a turbocharger. Fuel consumption in a Volvo V40 with the 8-speed automatic is 6.1

l/100 km (143 g/km).

To deliver the desired responsive, smooth and fuel-efficient drivability, the Drive-E engines are teamed

either with Volvo Cars’ new eight-speed automatic gearbox for improved fuel economy. Gear shift

paddles on the steering wheel are also available for manual gear shifting when desired.

SAFETY & SUPPORT

Park Assist Pilot - making parallel parking easy

The Park Assist Pilot makes parallel parking easy and precise by taking over and operating the steering

wheel while the driver handles the gearbox and controls the car's speed.

Enhanced Blind Spot Information System - for better visibility

The V40 offers the enhanced Blind Sport Information System (BLIS), which is radar-based. The

technology can now also monitor and alert the driver to rapidly approaching vehicles up to 70 m behind

the car. Of course it still informs the driver about vehicles in the blind spots on both sides.

Cross Traffic Alert - covering your back

Cross Traffic Alert uses the radar sensors at the rear end of the car to alert the driver to crossing traffic

from the sides when reversing out of a parking space. This is especially helpful in tight and crowded

areas where the side view might be limited due to infrastructure, vegetation or other parked cars.

City Safety - active up to 50 km/h

The V40 features the upgraded City Safety system. This system is active at speeds up to 50 km/h. The

car automatically brakes if the driver fails to react in time when the vehicle in front slows down or stops -

or if the car is approaching a stationary vehicle too fast.
