The current Hyundai Tucson compact SUV has achieved pretty outstanding crash protection ratings from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently. It is the only vehicle in the compact SUV category that actually received high ratings for the driver and passenger in the latest round of IIHS small-overlap crash tests.
So what the heck is a small-overlap crash test in the first place? It is a very realistic crash test that simulates real situations. During the test, the test vehicle hits a wall at 64.5kmh with 25 percent of front bumper making contact with the barrier. According to IIHS this would be close to a real-life comparison as a vehicle hitting a lamppost where the contact point is offset to one side.
Speaking of the Tucson, we have tested the Malaysian spec 2.0 Executive (the Premium specced version) and a review on it will be out sometime soon. I quite liked it in terms of an urban SUV and what it offered. The test car was a nice looking one is light blue with strikingly unique white leather seats which made the SUV feel like it came from a category higher up that what it is.
