ALL PROTON CARS, ACTUALLY ALL CARS, CAN BE JUMP STARTED LAH! R.T.F.M. OKAY?

Some of you Malaysians out there are so gullible and plain lazy. Let me tell you why. There have been stupid photos going around social media stating that you should not jump start certain Proton models as it will damage the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) of these cars. ALL PROTON CARS CAN BE JUMP STARTED.OKAY. So ignore the stupid notice you see below which I gotten off Facebook. The person who put this up is a moron.

Stupid misleading notice created by a useless person

Now it says all the current crop of Proton cars cannot be jump started. What? Did you not read something called the owner's manual before operating your car? Do you know that ALL CARS SOLD IN THE MARKET CAN BE JUMP STARTED? Aiyooooo, some of you out there are  so lazy to even open the owners manual and check. Everything an owner needs to do to their cars is in the owners manual. Proton cars included lah. Some of you out there are so gullible and lazy to find out information first hand that you believe whatever garbage posted on Facebook. So much so that PROTON Holdings Berhad themselves have to release a Media Statement regarding Emergency Jump Starts.

Read. All claims must be backed up with substantive material and facts. One stupid poster is not conclusive evidence. Where did you learn that you can take everything that supposedly looks like face value on Facebook especially if it comes from websites with stupid names like Friends of JKKK Kampung Jambu or CencaruGeli?

The steps to be taken as stated in the Manual when using jumper cables connected to a battery from another vehicle, include:

THE FACT THAT ALL PROTON CARS CAN BE JUMP STARTED (I had to add this in again in case you fail to notice it earlier).

 Vehicles should be close enough so that the jumper cables can be connected, but be sure that the vehicles aren't touching each other. If they are, it could cause an undesirable ground connection. It will not be possible to start the vehicle, and the bad grounding could damage the electrical systems (Transmission Control Unit, TCU).

 The assisting vehicle must have a 12-volt battery and the capacity (Ah) of the booster battery should not be significantly lower than that of the discharged battery, this is to avoid damage of circuit shorting both vehicles.

 Only use jumper cables with insulated battery clamps.

 Vehicle must be positioned in “P” (PARK) for automatic transmission and “N” (NEUTRAL) for manual transmission.

 Turn off the ignition on both vehicles beforehand.

 When connecting the booster cable, do not connect the positive (+) cable to the negative (-) terminal or it can causesparks and battery can explode.

 The negative jumper cable (black) must never be clamped to fuel lines with metal sheath or to the fuel filter or brake lines as this could cause a fire.

 Start the engine in the vehicle, which has the booster battery, let the engine idle for a few minutes and then start the engine in the vehicle with the discharged battery.

 After the engine is started, disconnect the cables in reverse order.

For a more detailed guide, Proton car owners are advised to refer to their vehicle Owner’s Manual prior to performing any emergency start to the battery.

I hope that the clear and detailed instructions given by Proton tells you how to go about it. And please do not tell me that the instructions above are too long and technical.

Yes, all cars with a lot of electronics will get shorted out if you do it wrongly. Not only a Proton. I think this stupid false claim started going around as there must have been a useless fella who tried jump starting his or her Proton and shorted everything as he did things wrongly. Then goes to a mechanic, or is a mechanic himself but self trained and has been doing all things wrongly. Then the information is passed down to others who are so gullible and would believe in everything people say without checking or looking through the information first hard.

Let me teach you something here again : R.T.F.M. = READ THE FREAKING MANUAL. Always. Always and Always. What these people have done is make life difficult during an already difficult time for Proton.

I have included the press statement in English and also in Bahasa Malaysia so that more can understand easily.

MEDIA STATEMENT

EMERGENCY JUMP-START: WHEN IN DOUBT, REFER TO PROTON OWNER'S MANUAL

SUBANG JAYA, 9 June 2016 – PROTON Holdings Berhad (“PROTON” or “the Company”) would like to refute the recent

image that has been circulating on social media, alleging not jump-starting certain Proton models as it will cause irreparable

damages to the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). We wish to reiterate that all cars can be jump-started.

However, like other OEMs, Proton cars have been equipped with electronic systems which are sensitive to power surge. We

wish to provide a more accurate guide on this subject and assure Proton owners that it is safe to use jumper cables to start the

engine as long as proper steps are followed, as stated in the Proton car Owner's Manual.

In view of this, PROTON would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the right procedure to jump-start the car would be to

connect the (+) battery from the assisting car to the (+) terminal of the battery of the affected car. However, the (-) terminal

from the assisting car must be connected to the body of the affected car, NOT to its (-) terminal. When in doubt, please

always refer to the Owner's Manual.

The steps to be taken as stated in the Manual when using jumper cables connected to a battery from another vehicle, include:

 Vehicles should be close enough so that the jumper cables can be connected, but be sure that the vehicles aren't

touching each other. If they are, it could cause an undesirable ground connection. It will not be possible to start the

vehicle, and the bad grounding could damage the electrical systems (Transmission Control Unit, TCU).

 The assisting vehicle must have a 12-volt battery and the capacity (Ah) of the booster battery should not be

significantly lower than that of the discharged battery, this is to avoid damage of circuit shorting both vehicles.

 Only use jumper cables with insulated battery clamps.

 Vehicle must be positioned in “P” (PARK) for automatic transmission and “N” (NEUTRAL) for manual transmission.

 Turn off the ignition on both vehicles beforehand.

 When connecting the booster cable, do not connect the positive (+) cable to the negative (-) terminal or it can cause

sparks and battery can explode.

 The negative jumper cable (black) must never be clamped to fuel lines with metal sheath or to the fuel filter or brake

lines as this could cause a fire.

 Start the engine in the vehicle, which has the booster battery, let the engine idle for a few minutes and then start the

engine in the vehicle with the discharged battery.

 After the engine is started, disconnect the cables in reverse order.

For a more detailed guide, Proton car owners are advised to refer to their vehicle Owner’s Manual prior to performing any

emergency start to the battery. PROTON has always ensured its cars are built to the highest safety standards and will not

compromise customers’ safety.

KENYATAAN MEDIA
BANTU MULA (JUMP-START) KETIKA KECEMASAN: APABILA BERASA RAGU, RUJUK

BUKU PANDUAN PEMILIK PROTON

menyentuh satu sama lain.

(Unit Kawalan Transmisi, TCU).

 Selepas enjin dihidupkan, buka sambungan kabel mengikut urutan terbalik.
