The All-New Generation of the Perodua Axia city compact car has been launched - More Space...now closer in size to the Myvi

The next generation Perodua Axia has been launched  and as always, they have already started deliveries. This time with the first 2,900 customers getting the full model change Axia city compact car. It is larger in size inside and out, which should be quite a blessing to those that opted to switch to the new model from the 44,000 existing Axia orders still undelivered.

AXIA AV interior

The Axia now looks much like the larger B segment Myvi. It gets Perodua's latest styling cues and sits on Daihatsu's New Global Architecture but has Perodua's styling and upper body design touches to suit its market wants and needs. The interior also looks modern with a floating infotainment screen in the middle and take after the the current crop of newest Perodua releases like the Alza.

Anyway, still a 1.0liter city hatchback. It now boasts more space, more refinement and it still comes in at the same price (or thereabouts). This is what happens when a brand has enough volume to have economics of scale and actually does think about their customers.

More details are in the press release below. What I think about this all-new Axia is that it actually offers more value for money even when you compare it with the larger B segment Perodua Myvi. I'd actually buy this as firstly, it is almost closer in size to the current generation Myvi so do you really need to pay more?

Base Axia X variant

Secondly, which is a more personal opinion of mine is that the current Myvi has seats pulled from the previous generation Axia and most likely this Axia too. So the front seats have shorter squabs and a low backrest. If  you are paying for seats like that, just get the Axia.

Of course, some people may think that they need that extra 1.3 or 1.5liter engine so that they can drive a Myvi like how you see Myvi's being driven throughout Malaysia so there is an excuse not to buy an Axia. But for me, I'd actually save my money and buy this car as it is spacious for what its worth.

And on the same note, it will be quite sure that the next generation Myvi will be a larger car now that the Axia is larger. Also stated by some people on the grapevine. The A segment Axia now is more spacious, more refined, has a nice dashboard with a floating type infotainment screen, 4 Star ASEAN NCAP and comes close in size to the Myvi. And you save money.

I actually like this compact hatch a lot. The only thing I see missing from the new lineup is the lack of the quasi-SUV styled Axia Style variant. Maybe this isn't as popular as Perodua thought it may have been and has decided not to launch it this time around. Or they are waiting for when this new Axia is facelifted. Whatever the case, no more SUV styling for the Axia at the moment.
