The Scania XT is Now Used by Sara Transport and Logistic Services (STLS) Group to Tackle Tougher Than Usual Conditions

Scania XT heavy duty prime mover trucks are part of Scania's newly launched New Truck Generation range of trucks here. The Scania XT variant has a more robust design than the usual Scania NTG trucks where all cabs and engines have been designed to take on harsh working conditions in particular, the construction and mining industries. Now, the XT makes an appearance in the Malaysian construction industry with Sara Transport and Logistic Services Group (STLS Group) receiving their first Scania XT trucks.

STLS Group had purchased 2 units of the Scania XT New Truck Generation - the actual variant is the G460A6X4NZ XT model which has 460hp. The purchase was made under a hire purchase agreement with Scania Credit Malaysia so the trucks are fully cared for by Scania Malaysia. The Scania XT truck also comes with a two-year Repair and Maintenance Package which will provide STLS Group with the peace-of-mind and maximum uptime required so that they can just focus on their profitability. Currently, the folks at STLS Group owns 6 Scania PGR range that are under two-year Maintenance Package. They have been a Scania customer since 2012.

Dato’ Saravanan, STLS Group, Group Chief Executive Officer, at the handover ceremony said, “Being Malaysia’s premier bulk sand supplier, our trucks are constantly working under tough road conditions daily. STLS Group strategy 2025 focuses on becoming the most distinctive company amongst disruptive change of market, and we strongly believe that Scania XT is the right candidate we need to complete our task and deliver results, especially with the high performance, fuel efficient, and durable design of the XT.”

The Scania XT trucks have sturdier heavy-duty bumpers that adds 150 millimetres in front of the cab. This is coupled with a skid plate protecting the undercarriage and it also adds a headlight protection mesh protecting the headlights from knocks which may arise from small debris and rocks in construction or mining sites. These additions make the XT series of trucks look all the more rugged and offers extra protection against fairly heavy impact or collisions to the truck’s front. There is also an easily accessible towing bolt that is classified for up to 40 tonnes also available at the front in case the truck has to pull something out or should it need towing assistance when laden or when it gets stuck in extreme situations.

Since the Scania XT is part of Scania’s modular system,  XT customers can have tailor-made solutions that fit with their business requirements. The Scania XT can be ordered with different applications in mind such as tipper, mixer, skip loader, flatbed with crane, and heavy haulage. The also very customisable interior that is designed to be dirt and dust resistant also provides the driver with a safe and comfortable working environment. Note that this is why most of the automotive websites or news portals do not state how much is a truck as everything is customisable. Best to talk to the manufacturers directly for your needs.

Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director, Marie Sjödin Enström said of the XT, “The Scania XT is a truck model that is suited for the most challenging tasks such as those in construction and mining, where characteristics such as robustness, productivity and uptime are crucial. Customers can truly take advantage of the great fuel economy maximised uptime, and lower operating cost thus providing them with higher profitability.”

We think that this is a nice addition to STLS' fleet of trucks. Especially special orders like these which are slightly different from the normal prime movers we see in and around the country. Trucks which have added special equipment, no matter how little it shows on the outside are still special to those who know where to look at. If you are a truck spotter here, do keep an eye out for these two beauties.
