Hankook Tire has launched their latest ultra high performance (UHP) tyre, the Ventus Prime 3 (K125) in Malaysia. Hankook says that the new Ventus Prime 3 tyre is an ultra high-performance tire for passenger cars and it has been designed to have as close to as perfect a balance between performance, comfort and safety.
They recently held a launch event for Hankook Tire Malaysia’s dealers and distributors The event included a test drive session for them to have a feel of the new features of the new Ventus Prime 3 (K125) tyre. According to product specs, the new tyre is a comfortable summer tyre for passenger cars that features superior driving and braking performance in both wet and dry surfaces. It should be very suitable for drivers in Malaysia due to this design feature.
The K125 tyre features a wide 4 channel grooves which should provide superior wet performance with safety in mind. The new design is also optimized with specific grooves that work by its position on the thread pattern, minimizing the trade-off between dry and wet performance. The optimised design technology with enhanced tread block stiffness provides superior handling and braking performance on dry surfaces as well.
Aside from that, the new main groove positioning technology reduced the pattern noise even after wear whereas the high grip silica compound allows improved dry and wet traction as well as lower rolling resistance.
The tyre has actually won the first place in Auto Bild's (a very noted German automotive publication) 2018 summer tire test held by Auto Bild, Germany’s leading automobile consumer magazine. It was also awarded the top overall mark “Good” from the German Automobile Club ADAC in the 2018 summer tire test. These are road and track testers who frequently test on the high speed autobahn, so a tyre that can handle such performance levels could be good performers here (with some caveats like the extra wet surfaces sometimes).
In 2018, Ventus Prime 3 was also selected as the original equipment tire to the All-New Ford Focus Active and Citroën C3 Aircross. According to Hankook Tire Malaysia, the brand is aiming to increase its sales here in the country and also reinforce their position in the market with this new tyre as part of its latest sales push.
Expect the new Hankook tyre to be at all Hankook tyre stockists shortly with the popular sizes being catered for. From what we have heard from their public relations people, passenger car tyres sizes start at 15 inch up to 18 inches. SUV in 18 inches and 19 inches. Prices start at a reasonable RM180 onwards.

This is a gross mis-classification on hankook malaysia's part. The ventus prime 3 was never really UHP category, but more of premium touring category like the likes of bridgestone turanza t005/t001, michelin premacy series, continental premium contact, or pirelli cinturato series.
The genuine hankook UHPs are the s1evo2/s1evo3 and the v12evo2. The ventus prime is at best balanced tyres but master at none. Although i'm satisfied and happy with the performance of v12evo2 on my own car, kind of disappointed with their misleading marketing tactics for this ventus prime 3.
Hmm...UncleWong... I would have to agree. The price is for a mid-ranged tyre. It seems like a mid-ranged tyre, but having used Ventus before, they are very good for a mid-range tyre. Maybe they think this is why its 'uhp' rated to them.
