Having Shell Malaysia as the title sponsor of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) for the tenth year running is a blessing. The energy providing company have over the years improved their participation and this year, they have enhanced the Shell Hillstand features so that local motorsport enthusiasts can experience the MotoGP to an even high level of excitement.
This year's MotoGP fans is the penultimate 2019 MotoGP race and for this year's event, Shell hadintroduced ‘Sunset at Hillstand’, where those in attendance had a once in a lifetime chance to meet riders from any team of their choice. For some, this would be a dream come true where they would get to meet their racing champions up close and, well, somewhat personal. More than just watching them lap the Sepag circuit lap after lap from afar, or on their TV screens.
Aside from that, those at the Shell Hillstand were welcomed by a display of Ducati bikes at the entrance. There was also some games and activities such as the MotoGP™ PS4™ Challenge where visitors can try out a virtual racetrack experience. Those playing the video game were given three minutes to complete a lap around Sepang International Circuit. Riding virtually around the Sepang Circuit at, the Sepang Circuit.
One reason of watching the MotoGP from the Shell Hillstand was that it is a vantage point for the race going-on at Turn 13 and 14 of the race at the Sepang International Circuit. The Hillstand view was also enhanced with live feed broadcasts of the race on two large LED screens. It may not be like the Paddock sitting area (which are pricier and closer to the straights) but it does seem like more stuff are going on there.
Other than that, those who attended the Shell Hillstand area were treated to a some carnival-like games such as “Guess the Quantity” and “Super Sepak”. Shell provided access to various food and beverage options such as Shell’s very own deli2go, Costa Coffee, and TeaLive. All of these are staple features at most Shell Select stations throughout Malaysia.
Over at the Welcome Centre, Shell also debuted its bespoke Shell station, featuring Shell Advance and Shell V-Power booths. The centre also had a display showcasing Shell’s valuable technical partnership with Ducati where there were mock-ups of Ducati pits with an array of Ducati superbikes.
Outside, at the carpark, there was also a Shell Advance Ride Thru service where a complimentary service could be done with every purchase of Shell Advance lubricant during the race weekend.
Shairan Huzani Husain, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd said, “The MotoGP event is a clear testimony of our successful technical partnership with Ducati, as we leverage on it for the continued development of our products in the most testing environments. This in turn enabled us to ensure our customers are given the best of our high performing products such as our Shell V-Power road fuel and Shell Advance oil”.
