Continental Tyre has just launched the MaxContact MC6 tyre here in Malaysia. It will be replacing the popular MaxContact MC5 and it is another installment in Continental's 6th generation tyre lineup. The tyre is designed and engineered with the Asia Pacific region in question and is actually locally produced in Malaysia (as well as in China for certain sizes and 20inches above over in Europe).

We tried out back to back tests with the earlier MC5 and I must say that I am pretty impressed. The wet road braking of the MC6  is a good 5 to 6 meters shorter than the MC5 so braking seems to be very good. The sudden lane change test using a Mercedes W205 C-class also showed that the MC6 has more grip in an emergency. The tyre is grippy compared to the tail happy antics of the MC5 making it easier to control in emergency maneuvers.

After trying it out the MC6 is a marked improvement over the MC5.

As a person who is currently using the MC5 I must say that this new tyre is impressive. It has been over 6 years since the MC5 was first launched and this is a fitting follow up. It has a lot of tech and clever stuff built into it. The chart says an improvement in most of the important bits. I have to agree as the tyre seems very grippy and predictable.

According to Continental, the MC6 tyres in limited sizes are already available with the complete range by early 2018. Expect prices to be very similar to the MC5.

A full report will be written sometime soon. Stay tuned.
