Perodua Launches 5 Year Road Safety Campaign & Perodua Child Safety Seats

Perodua has launched a 5 year road safety campaign here in Malaysia. This campaign is aimed at improving the behavior of drivers starting with reminding drivers to practice good driving habits and also adhere to road traffic laws (which some Malaysians seem to choose not to). There will be four salient points of this new campaign. These are the use of seat belts, non-use of mobile devices whilst driving, the use of turn signals (which a lot seem to forget to use) and the use  of child safety seats (which should be used instead of the child sitting on the parent's lap sometimes).

Datuk Dr. Aminar Rashid Salleh, President and CEO of Perodua mentioned that the safety campaign includes the putting up of promotional materials at all Perodua sales and service outlets throughout Malaysia. It is also stated that Perodua wants to target 1 million of its customers within a year of this campaign.

Perodua has stated that during the safety campaign period, the compact car manuafacturer hopes to work with various government agencies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Road Safety Department (JKJR) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

In conjunction with the launch of the campaign, Perodua took the opportunity to also launch the Perodua Child Seat which is offered in Infant and also in Toddler sizes. The Infant safety sear is designed for infants weight up to 13kg and is available in red and grey colours. The Toddler seat is for children weighing from 9kg to 36kg in red or black colour. It will be offered to all Perodua customers (as well as those interested in purchasing) at all Perodua outlets nationwide. It will also be very affordable to buy.

From now until the upcoming Chinese New Year 2018, the child seats will be offered at a special introductory price. The Infant seat will cost RM660, down from RM790 and the Toddler seat will cost RM780 from a retail price of RM980.

Perodua believes that the prices are competitive for an ISOFIX type seat offered in the market. It is also suited to all Perodua vehicles that have ISOFIX (those made after 2012) and can be used with normal seatbelt attachments for those cars without ISOFIX mountings. Perodua will sell and also teach the buyers how to install the child seats properly too.

One other benefit to those who are buying new cars from Perodua is that the seats are considered official Perodua Gear Up Accessories and the cost of the seats can be included in the hire-purchase loans. It will cost approximately RM11 per month when you purchase the seat together with the car from Perodua.

The reason Perodua has decided to push these seats with their cars under hire-purchase loans aside from the fact that it is important and necessary is the fact that the feedback received from their customers stated that the cost of buying a child safety seat actually prevents parents from buying them for their children. With the packaging of the seat into the loan, this actually makes it affordable to the buyer.

This move to provide child safety seats is much lauded as there are many who are still unaware of the dangers of having children sitting inside cars without being buckled up. It is also in line with the Malaysian government's policy to push for mandatory child safety seat usage by 2019.

Now aside from the launch of the safety campaign and the child safety seat, Perodua also has their Tweckbot online application for smartphones. This is one of the first social media based safety campaigns when Tweckbot was launched way back in 2011. Throught Tweckbot, Perodua offers a free 50 point vehicle inspection for all Perodua vehicles during festive seasons like Hari Raya. To date, the service has inspected around 5,000 Perodua vehicles to ensure the safety and roadworthiness of the vehicles.

The launch event earlier today was officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Transport, YB Dato' Ab Aziz Kaprawi at Perodua Sentral, Petaling Jaya.
