Mr. Gerard Law, General Manager of GMR & Mr. Paramesvaren, representative of Rainbow Enterprise after launching the free extended warranty programme
I attended a small press event on wednesday which pertains to the fairly large reconditioned car market here in Malaysia (which makes it quite interesting actually). Rainbow Enterprise, one of the largest exporter of reconditioned cars from Japan is giving Malaysian car buyers free extended warranty coverage for the first 500 units registered commencing from 8th of March 2017. This special limited offer will be carried out through its partnership with Malaysia’s No. 1 extended warranty company Guard My Ride (GMR).
The warranty will also come with the added value of redeemable car maintenance and accessory vouchers meant exclusively for GMR customers upon purchase of their vehicles The warranty, somewhat similar to new car warranties but with a one or two year period only is one of the most comprehensive programs available in the country for reconditioned cars and is underwritten by RHB Insurance.
Rainbow Enterprise is one of the largest exporter of reconditioned and used cars from Japan. The company deals with many of our reconditioned car dealers here and basically assists local car dealers in procuring cars from Japan.
For these 500 cars that are under Rainbow Enterprise's promotional offer, GMR has some value added perks in the form of vouchers from car wash & wax treatment, headlamp wrap protection, window tint film, balancing and alignment, and 4 litres of semi synthetic oil for car servicing with a total value of more than RM 1400.00.
GMR has informed that this extended warranty package will be made available at a nominal sum for reconditioned cars based on the usual terms and conditions of the agreement after the 500 units have been taken up. Extended warranty for recondition
It is said that the latest government regulations on selling imported reconditioned cars is that the dealers would have to offer the purchasers some sort of warranty for a certain period . This is where this warranty package by GMR comes in. GMR would usually give a one year/25,000km OR a two year/50,0000km warranty depending on the mileage of the car and the year of manufacture (and for cars not exceeding 5 years of age).
This 500 car promotion is to increase brand awareness and GMR are indeed pleased that Rainbow Enterprise is willing to collaborate with them on this. PEKEMA (Persatuan Pengimport dan Peniaga Kenderaan Melayu Malaysia), or the Malay Bumiputera association for importer and traders of vehicles have also given their blessing for the scheme (Their representative Mr Hamzi was present at the launch - above, middle). This basically means that the people who actually hold the import licenses (AP Holders) for reconditioned cars are willing to work together in making this extended warranty scheme happen.
Mr. Jonathan Tham, CEO of GMR (L), and Mr. Gerard Law, General Manager of GMR (R )
Let's hope that actual vehicle claims (if any) are carried out efficiently by all the parties involved. I asked the GMR's General Manager, Mr Gerard Law on this and he mentioned that all parties from the workshop, the insurance adjuster appointed, the insurers and GMR should work together in tackling any claim provided it falls within the ambit of the terms and conditions.
I have to say that at least there is a proper insurance underwriter in the form of RHB Insurance. In most cases, reconditioned cars are usually sold with a 3 month dealer warranty. Three months is usually too short a period for a large purchase such as this and the dealers may give more excuses than fulfilling warranty claims. Again, this is where an extended warranty programme like this comes into play. Something more tangible than just a dealer warranty.
