BMW Group Malaysia Launches the All-new BMW 5 Series

The seventh generation BMW 5 Series has officially been launched in Malaysia. Internally codenamed the G30, this is BMW's take on how a premium business should be. At this moment only one, fully imported variant is available - the BMW 530i M Sport. The official retail price (on the road, without insurance, and with BMW Group Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Program and BMW Tyre Warranty Programme) is RM 398,800.

It will be available in Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Alpine White and Mediterranean Blue. This is matched with interior upholstery in Leather Dakota Black with contrast Blue stitching or Leather Dakota Cognac with contrast stitching (only for the Alpine White, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, and Black Sapphire).

Those interested to view the model do take note that it will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships across the country from this weekend onwards and will also be displayed at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Main Entrance from 31 st March 2017 to 2 nd April 2017 where visitors can participate in interactive activities and stand a chance to win an exclusive experience with BMW.

I must say that the G30 is what I would say to be a steady evolution of the previous model, the F10. You still see the same overall familiar stance and outline. What is added are the latest BMW styling cues first properly shaped out in the latest, sixth generation (G11/G12) 7 Series. On the overall, this new 5 series could be a shrunken 7 series at a glance. Personally I think it looks better than the new Seven as I believe this design philosophy suits a sportier, slightly smaller sedan.

Most of the changes for the car are actually underneath. It is actually based upon BMW's modular platform of which was first used in the above-mentioned G11 7 Series. This is why they look so alike. The OKL platform as it is called, uses different types of materials to increase structural rigidity and also to decrease overall weight. Like the 7 Series, its base platform is made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), magnesium, aluminium and high-strength steel mix. Because of this the new 5 Series is on average 100 kg (220 lb) from the previous model.

Inside, I must say that the materials used are up a notch from the previous model. A lot of nice textures and better plastics. BMW have improved slightly. Space in the front is quite good but the rear I have to add that it is just cosy with some competitors have more lounging space. But this is a BMW. It's for you to drive. And the driving position is SPOT ON! For me, that is.

The 5 Series is equipped with BMW's sixth-generation iDrive vehicle control system, which has been expanded to offer four manual input options, most notably gesture-recognizing controls. The electronic architecture has been upgraded to a 48V system in order to make room for a new number of autonomous advanced driver assistance systems which you can read in the Press Release below.

So why only one official model for now? I suppose most are aware that taxes play a big role in pricing. This model has the 252hp/350Nm 2.0liter turbocharged engine and the BMW M Sport package. For about RM399,000 the car is priced very competitively for an imported car (CBU). Which is approximately what a locally assembled (CKD) F10 530i actually. The reason for this pricing is because BMW Group Malaysia is committed to locally assemble this car here in the near future and this special pricing is because of that. So you're getting a lot of car for the price.

Anyway, I heard that out of the initial batch of 350 units, 200 are already spoken for. So actually a RM400,000 car isn't much of an issue these days. Buy one whilst its hot.

PRESS RELEASE

BMW Group Malaysia Introduces the All-New BMW 5 Series.

The Ultimate Business Athlete promises Sheer Driving Pleasure with refined engineering

and an unmatched degree of connectivity.

(From L-R) Mr. Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications; and Mr. Han
Sang Yun, Managing Director & CEO of BMW Group Malaysia BMW Group Malaysia with
the all-new BMW 5 Series.

Kuala Lumpur, 29 March 2017 - BMW Group Malaysia today introduced the all-new

BMW 5 Series. Now in its seventh generation, the Most Progressive Sports-Business

Sedan promises Sheer Driving Pleasure and will set a new benchmark in the automotive

premium segment in the country.

Mr. Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “Since its

first introduction in 1972, the BMW 5 Series sedan has created a lasting legacy in the

automotive premium segment, embodying unrivalled performance, elegance and

combining cutting-edge engineering with sophisticated innovation. Now, the new seventh

generation all-new BMW 5 Series is destined to continue this remarkable success and

ambition of the most successful Premium Business Sedan in the world.”

Han added that the all-new BMW 5 Series is already an award winner, recently taking

home the much coveted iF Gold Award 2017, the highest accolade for Design at the

recent iF Design Awards 2017. A jury comprising of 58 international design experts

emphasised that the premium executive sedan demonstrated clear precision of sporty

design, brand related recognisability of both interior and exterior as well as the balance

between emotionally and visual presence. The All-New BMW 5 Series is also currently a

finalist for the famed World Luxury Car of the Year Award 2017.

With enhanced driving dynamics, an unbeatable line-up of assistance systems, an

unmatched degree of connectivity and a new and innovative operating system, the all-

new BMW 5 Series is the most innovative premium executive sedan to date and points

the way to the future of mobility in the segment.

Design: athletic, sleek and prestigious.

Even when standing still, the all-new BMW 530i M Sport creates a powerful impression.

In the seventh generation of the sportiest business sedan, the kidney grille and

headlights are directly linked for the first time ever. Here, the BMW Adaptive full-LED

headlights with LED daytime running lights have been enhanced with roundabout light

and high beam with a range of 500 meters.

The low roof line sloping to the rear of the sedan lends the muscular body an elegant

coupé-like silhouette while the broad rear emphasises the high performance capacity of

the All-New BMW 5 Series. Also for the first time, the crease below the side windows

curves upwards into the Hofmeister kink for a more dynamic appearance.

Alongside its superior driving pleasure is its unsurpassed aerodynamics. Rigorous

application of the BMW EfficientLightweight design concept, with increased use of

aluminium and high-strength steels, reduces the weight of the all-new BMW 5 Series by

up to 100 kilograms from that of its predecessor. The newly designed chassis, a low

centre of gravity, BMW’s hallmark even weight distribution and a lightweight body offering

exceptional torsional stiffness combine a wonderfully dynamic driving experience with the

long-distance comfort for which the BMW 5 Series is renowned.

These many aerodynamic refinements and airflow-optimizing elements, including the

visible air vent control in the kidney grille, air inlets and Air Curtains in the front apron, as

well as Air Breathers in the front wings, all contribute to the best drag coefficient of any

sedan (up to cd=0.22).

With the M Sport package, the all-new BMW 530i M Sport puts passion for dynamism at

the forefront. 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double spoke style with mixed tyres, M Sport

brake with blue painted callipers with ‘M’ designation, as well as M Aerodynamics

components in the body colour, front and rear aprons and sill covers at the side make for

the athletic appearance of the all-new BMW 5 Series. Internally, the all-new BMW 5

Series is fitted with sports seats for the driver and front passenger, illuminated M door sill

finishers, new M specific pedals, and M leather steering wheel.

The interior refinement of the new premium executive sedan from BMW also sets a new

benchmark for comfort and workmanship. The all-new BMW 5 Series has the best-in-

class dimensions of 4,936 mm (+29mm) in length, 1,868 mm (+8mm) in width, and 1,479

mm (+2mm) in height – dimensions that promise increased space and comfort inside the

car with more room for all occupants and a larger luggage compartment of 530 litres in

the boot space.

Powertrain: driving dynamics and efficient driving pleasure.

With improved athleticism, the all-new BMW 530i M Sport is a car not to be trifled with. Its

engine is based off the newly developed, modular BMW EfficientDynamics family of

power units. BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology which comes with a Twin Scroll

turbocharger, High Precision Direct Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control

and a Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing works in tandem to deliver outstanding

performance combined with exceptional efficiency.

With the latest-generation inline 4-cylinder 2-litre petrol engine mated with an equally

optimised eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, the all-new BMW 530i M Sport

generates a maximum output of 252 hp, torque of 350 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100

km/h in just 6.2 seconds at a top speed of 250 km/h. The average fuel consumption of the

all-new BMW 530i M Sport stands at 5.8 litres per 100 km with C02 emissions of 132

grams per kilometre.

Meanwhile, the Driving Experience Control system now provides access to a fourth mode

– ADAPTIVE – in addition to the COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO driving modes. The

ADAPTIVE mode works alongside Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) and Navigation

System Professional wherein the steering, DDC and Steptronic systems automatically

adapts to the current driving style and route ahead.

A new breed of success through technology.

Triumphing in every situation calls for one thing above all: first class equipment. The all-

new BMW 5 Series guarantees seamless connectivity with the outer world while its

intuitive operation ensures maximum comfort and safety with maximum productivity.

The intuitive controls in the all-new BMW 5 Series too have received much praise.

Equipped with the latest-generation iDrive system, it displays navigation and

entertainment features, including vehicle functions on a high-resolution 10.25-inch touch

screen. The system can be operated using the iDrive controller, by voice command or

gestures, or by touching the display controls directly, as the driver wishes. The large, tile-

style panels can be arranged as desired to show the content of the underlying menus in

constantly updated form.

User experience is further improved with the BMW Gesture Control. This simple and

intuitive operation works through distinguishable gestures for accurate recognition. Not

only does it add a modern operating mode to the car, but it also acts as a safety feature

by allowing the driver to keep his eyes on the road without any distractions.

Further maximising the levels of on-board comfort are the automatic air conditioning with

4-zone control and electrically adjustable sport seats with Memory function for the driver

as well as heat and sun protection glazing.

The all-new BMW 5 Series also now widens its lead with the latest innovations in driver

assistance systems. The Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function adjusts pre-set

speed to the traffic situation based on radar and camera data. Operating at speeds of up

to 210 km/h, it slows or even stops the vehicle when the car encounters congestion and

automatically starts up again as soon as the radar sensors detect that the car in front is

moving again. This system now also recognizes roundabouts and motorway exits and

controls acceleration accordingly.

Another new driver assistance system in the all-new BMW 5 Series is the Speed Limit

Info with Intelligent Speed Limit Assist which detects speed limits and feed them into the

Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function. The driver can adapt the permitted

maximum speed in the cruise control system from 15 to +15 km/h.

What’s more is the additional safety and comfort functions that provide highly intelligent

support to the driver in everyday travel. In addition to the Lane Departure Warning and

Lane Change Warning, the all-new BMW 5 Series also features the Approach Control

Warning & Person Warning with City Brake function, a function which warns and brakes

within a speed range from approximately 10 km/h to 60 km/h for persons and up to 80

km/h for vehicles. In case an accident is unavoidable, the city braking function helps

reduce the impact speed and hence, the severity of the accident. Approach Control

Warning also warns the potential collision with a vehicle ahead at higher speeds, with

preconditioning of the brakes for faster brake response and shorter braking distances.

The Crossing-Traffic Warning Rear meanwhile, supports the driver when reversing out of

parking spaces and warns of potential collisions with intersecting traffic in situations

where it is difficult to see everything around them. In combination with the Rear View

camera, the Crossing-Traffic Warning Rear is extended by and additional real-image

display. The Prevention of Rear Collision function also detects threat of rear collisions via

rear sensors and warns the traffic behind via the hazard warning lights.

In addition to the advanced driver assistance systems with innovative digital services, the

all-new BMW 5 Series also offers the best in class connectivity. A key feature is the self-

learning BMW Connected mobility assistant which supports individual mobility planning

inside and outside the vehicle, especially on busy working days with endless meetings

and appointments. This enables users to manage their time more efficiently, for stress-

free journeys. Along with time-to- leave recommendations and remote access to vehicle

functions, it now also offers additional services which the driver can access upon

downloading the BMW Connected app.

Additionally, the on-board computer in the all-new sBMW 5 Series has a standard LCD

display and a high-resolution wide-screen colour display which also shows Check Control

warnings and information from the Driver Assistant. For example, Speed Limit Info allows

the on-board computer to keep the driver informed about current speed limits as well as

the status of the Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go functionalities and Lane Departure

Warning. It also displays messages and status updates from the Entertainment and

Communication functions as well as Navigation and Service information directly in the

instrument panel.

The BMW Display Key with LCD colour display and touch control panel for example,

shows various information about the vehicle’s status and allows selected functions to be

controlled via the integrated touch display. Other pioneering BMW ConnectedDrive

features in the All-New BMW 5 Series include Intelligent Emergency Call, BMW

Teleservices, Concierge Services and Remote Services.

The all-new BMW 5 Series is available in Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect,

Alpine White and Mediterranean Blue. This is matched with interior upholstery in Leather

Dakota Black with contrast Blue stitching or Leather Dakota Cognac with contrast

stitching (only for the Alpine White, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, and Black Sapphire).

The new BMW 530i M Sport will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships

across the country from this weekend onwards and will also be displayed at

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Main Entrance from 31 st March 2017 to 2 nd April 2017 where

visitors can participate in interactive activities and stand a chance to win an

exclusive experience with BMW.

latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Program and

BMW Tyre Warranty Programme) for the all-new BMW 5 Series is:
