Video - First Drive in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S560e Plug-in Hybrid S-Class

Hello folks. This is our first drive in the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz S560e Plug-in Hybrid S-Class. A short drive around a circuit that was set up at an airstrip, but we managed some fun, high speed driving nonetheless. [Launch article and specs are HERE]

This is a New variant of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship model, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S 560 e. This luxury sedan is the first ever S-Class plug in hybrid in Malaysia featuring state of the art safety and assistance systems and is priced at RM658,888 onwards.

The Hybrid system fitted to this luxury sedan has a total system output of up to 475 hp - A combination of 367 hp of the 3.0 V6 petrol engine and 122hp of the EQ Power. 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds, with an all-electric range of up to 50 km.

We had a go at it at the launch which was held at Bandar Malaysia, or what the Sungai Besi Airbase is now called. The runway was where we had a first drive go at the S 560 e and we actually get to drive on this historic bit of Malaysia which will be gone once it is redeveloped into Bandar Malaysia.

While the V222 / W222 S-Class has been around since circa 2014, I believe that the running changes made by Mercedes-Benz still make it one of the best luxury sedans you can buy out there if you want to arrive in relative luxury. It is still a car or limousine which would actually someone who can afford a chauffeur, but if you drove yourself, it would still give you a decent amount of satisfaction.

The amount of equipment and technology fitted to this flagship still makes it super relevant in 2019. It also drives like something from 2019 so you know that this car does deserve that image as the car for heads of state as well as for other well heeled people. Granted, it is a barge, but a very nicely tuned one with about 700Nm of torque to pull you out of most situations. Or try give a big smile on your face especially when you go full bore on the acceleration. 5.0 seconds makes it no slouch at all.

Couple that with some decent handling (for its size) and you can see from the video that we were all happy campers. Me especially.
