Malaysian Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2019 Opens its Doors to Trade Visitors - Focusing on Future Transport Solutions Today

The fourth edition of the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) opened earlier today .The (now ongoing) three day event has around 70 local and international exhibitors which displayed their latest crop of vehicles and product as well as working on MCVE's theme this year which focused on future transport solutions in the commercial vehicle industry.

The MCVE 2019 was officially launched by the Honourable Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Deputy Transport Minister of Malaysia who was driven in the recently launched Scania Next Generation Truck by Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia, Marie Sjödin Enström who showed us how easy driving these new, latest generation trucks can be to drive. Scania also featured a range of the New Truck Generation as well as Scania’s philosophy on sustainable transport systems – the Scania Ecolution. The company also held a signing ceremony of the first Scania Ecolution truck agreement in Asia between Scania Malaysia and AONE Logistics Group

Anyway, the Deputy Transport Minister looked extremely pleased during his walk about after officiating the launched and said that the trucking and transportation industries are on the cusp of transformative change (with all the latest trends in e-commerce etc) and that Malaysian needs to exploit our existing infrastructure better to be able to meet the demands of transportation in a more sustainable and efficient way.

"I am delighted that the MCVE can serve as the platform for all the players in the industry to share and offer solutions on providing safe, efficient and sustainable transportation for Malaysia in the coming future”, said Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Malaysia’s Deputy Transport Minister.

Stefan Pertz, Editor of the Asian Trucker and Asian Buses magazines and organiser of the MCVE (above right, with the Deputy Minister of Transportsaid, “Technology is disrupting and transforming the transportation industry in a rapid pace. The future of transportation will involve vehicles and transport solutions that are connected, data-driven, shared, on-demand, electric and highly automated. By bringing the spotlight on ground-breaking and new transport solutions in this expo, I hope it will help prepare us for the future of transportation in Malaysia”.

The expo brings together the megatrends of future transport solutions on one stage, with exhibitors putting together a comprehensive display of innovative products and services that can contribute to more efficient, safer and cleaner transportation. Electromobility, technology trends and ‘Uberisation’ of trucking are among the topics to be presented at the MCVE.

Also, back in this year’s agenda is the Scania Driver Competition MCVE Edition, as well as a range of comprehensive and exciting fringe programs to appeal to a broad audience.

“Since our first event in 2013, the MCVE has grown into a leading, multi-faceted exhibition and business platform for the commercial vehicle industry, bringing together a record number of exhibitors and trade visitors in each installment. Our newest addition to this year’s program, which will interest our expo visitors is the exhibitor’s ‘Hour of Power’, whereby designated exhibitors will each use a given hour to vie for their attention. I believe the exhibitors have prepared a line-up of engaging and attention-grabbing activities”, added Pertz.

Other highlights of the MCVE 2019 include the Asian Truckers Drivers Club luncheon sponsored by Giti Tire and a seminar by Volvo Trucks on ‘The Road to Electromobility for the Malaysian Transportation Industry’, which include panellists from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and The Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH) while Asian Trucker’s Stefan Pertz is the moderator for the seminar.

Aside from that, UD Trucks launched their revised for 2019 UD Quester Medium to Heavy Duty truck which features a wrath of updates as well as an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in the 11liter UD Quester series of trucks. The Japanese brand (owned by Volvo Trucks) is the first Japanese truck company to have a heavy duty truck with an automatic transmission unit which would make life easier for truck drivers in the long run.

Hino Malaysia previewed their super cute looking Hino Poncho minibus as well as their upcoming Hino 700 Series Prime Mover with an AMT Gearbox. So it does look like the Japanese manufacturers are starting to fully offer automatic transmissions on a larger scale. This is a good change in my books as these days, with technology rapidly changing, it is actually more cost effective to let the truck change the gears themselves as their electronic brain, or brains actually do it better than their human drivers - sometimes saving up to 10% in fuel costs easily.

Volvo Trucks, aside from holding their seminar mentioned above also launched a unique aftersales package called Uptime Promise, which basically promises that a Volvo truck which needs repairs will be back on the road within a period of 12 hours after being worked on by a Volvo technician. Of course, this would give quite a lot of savings for the customer as their trucks would be up and running in a short span of time. Terms and conditions apply of course, as it depends on how bad the repairs are needed.

MAN trucks also took the opportunity of the expo to launch their MAN XLION special model.  Equipped with a D2676 engine that generates 480 hp and a maximum torque of 2300 Nm, the special edition vehicle comes with a double cylinder air compressor and an air dryer with two granulated cartridges, as well as a 4-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a hydraulic cab tilting mechanism and double-reduction rear axles. A self-contained and battery-operated Roof Top Air Conditioner RTX 2000 is also installed to ensure relaxing rest periods.

Daihatsu Malaysia also launched their Business Fleet Program to provide innovative solutions and end-to-end aftersales service tailored to small and medium businesses as well as customers with larger fleets. They also displayed their recently launched Grand Max van with the 4 speed automatic transmission which is suited to jam packed urban environments.

The expo also features a designated Rest and Relax (R&R) area supported by Guardian South East Asia and Nittsu Transport, complete with food trucks to provide free food and a coffee bar at the Asian Trucker booth, as well a designated networking area sponsored by Hengst. Exhibitors and visitors will find ample networking and interaction opportunities throughout the three days, to exchange knowledge and forge new alliances.

The MVCE 2017 attracted more than 6,700 trade visitors. Note that this isn't a (fully) open event as it is set up for industry players from all aspects. But one could register at the counter to gain access of course. This time, in 2019, the line-up of exhibitors and programs as well as the exciting topics in this year’s MCVE, the organisers are confident that they will see the attendance figures rise up and that the visitors can expect to be thoroughly have a nice experience with the products displayed as well as the events scheduled to happen there.

The MCVE 2019 is open from 10:00am to 7:00pm till Saturday and admission is free to trade visitors. More information can be found at www.mcve.com.my
