The New 2019 Mercedes-Benz S560 e Plug-in Hybrid is Now Offered in Malaysia - RM658,888+++

-New variant of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship model, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S 560 e is the first ever S-Class plug in hybrid in Malaysia featuring state of the art safety and assistance systems and is priced at RM658,888 onwards.

-The 2019 S560e Hybrid system has a total system output of up to 475 hp - A combination of 367 hp of the 3.0 V6 petrol engine and 122hp of the EQ Power. 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds, with an all-electric range of up to 50 km.

So Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched a new hybrid S-Class after a short absence. The 2019 S 560 e joins the Malaysian S-Class line-up. The latest model is a new generation of plug-in hybrid that offers customers the best of both worlds where it can be driven on battery power alone in the city and on the combustion engine when on longer drives. The new S560e can do 50km on electric power alone.

From what I have heard, this 2019 S 560 e will only be sold in limited numbers (up to 400-500 or so units) or basically until the approved Energy Efficient Vehicle units for this variant has been sold out. So as always, being certified under the EEV system, this S 560e comes in at RM658,888 (On the Road before insurance) which makes it relatively cheaper than the S 450 L AMG Line which is priced at RM699,888 (OTR before insurance). 

This effectively straddles the price offered for the S 400 h AMG Line, which was the last EEV approved S-Class on sale here at RM599,888. So the new Plug-in Hybrid variant isn't as 'cheap' as before, but it still priced lower than the petrol powered S 450L with slightly more features than that variant. Both however are better specified than the S 400 h.

The Design Brief of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S 560 e

The powertrain of this flagship model features a 270 kW (367 hp) V6 petrol engine and 90 kW of EQ Power, the hybrid drive system in the S 560 e could deliver a system output of up to 350 kW or 476hp. 

The EQ Power also allows the S 560 e to have an all-electric range of approximately 50 kilometres, with the new lithium-ion battery that has an increased rated capacity of 13.5 kWh. It allows a choice for the well heeled customer to gain more efficiency and a near silent motoring experience due to the hybrid, electric motor - internal combustion petrol engine combination.

This latest model is also fitted with the 9G‑TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. Consisting of the

torque converter, clutch and electric motor, they are housed in the innovative and compact hybrid drive unit that integrates and connects the clutch, torsional vibration damper and torque converter lock-up clutch within the rotor of the specially designed electric motor which was developed together with Bosch as part of the EM‑motive joint venture. The torque converter with its powerful and highly efficient hydraulic circuit offers the customary smoothness when in hybrid mode.

The total electric output of the electric motor is 90 kW and 440 Nm which greaty help the limousine achieve a 0-100kmh time of an impressive 5.0seconds.

Interior Appointments

As a member of the S-Class family, the S 560 e offers nothing short of the luxury and comfort than its S-Class counterparts. It is fitted with Nappa Leather, the Exclusive trim package and high gloss burr walnut wood trim.

Chauffeur Package fitted

It is also equipped with the Chauffeur package that offers a host of adjustment and setting options for

the perfect and seating position. The Chauffeur package comprises the Chauffeur position front-

passenger seat, EASY ADJUST luxury head restraint for the front passenger and footrest that is power- retractable on the front passenger side. The luxury plug-in hybrid model will also come with executive seats for rear passengers and multi-contour rear seats.

Notable features of the S 560 e are the pre-entry climate control that sets the various temperature settings (air conditioning, heater, heated seats, steering wheel heater, armrest heaters, and optional seat ventilation) for maximum comfort prior to setting off. 

ECO Assist 

The Plug-in Hybrid also features an Eco Assist mode that provide assistance to the driver to create the most efficient driving experience via the haptic accelerator pedal. For example, a variable point of resistance will indicate to drivers the maximum amount of electric power is being delivered. A double pulse will also kick in to recommend the drivers to take their foot off the accelerator, which turn the internal combustion engine off.

Additionally, ECO Assist works continuously to generate coasting simulations where it computes whether the vehicle should ideally be allowed to coast freely with the lowest possible driving resistance when releasing the accelerator, or whether it should be decelerated so that the battery can be efficiently charged (recuperation).

To further motivate driver’s to follow the recommendations of ECO Assist, the on-board computer is able to record the distance and time during a journey the car has been driven with the engine switched off via the central display.
