MCVE 2019: MAN Malaysia Unveils a MAN XLION Special Model - Aimed at Simplifying Business with Special Equipment & Comprehensive Aftersales Packages

MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN) had presented their MAN XLION special model at the recently concluded Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2019. This new MAN truck model with its tailor made equipment and aftersales package is in line with their motto of ‘Simplifying Business’. The MAN TGS 33.480 in the XLION package was displayed. It is a 6x4 prime mover, with its XLION lion design on the sides of the truck.

The X in the name of this powerful truck stands for “extreme” and as its nomenclature, it is fitted with something that has a lot of performance - a D2676 engine which makes 480 hp and  2300 Nm worth of torque. The XLION TGS 33.480 comes with better specified equipment as standard, most notable are the double cylinder air compressor and an air dryer with two granulated cartridges,  a 4-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a hydraulic cab tilting mechanism and double-reduction rear axles. It is also fitted with a self-contained and battery-operated Roof Top Air Conditioner RTX 2000 to enable rest periods without the need for the driver to keep the turbodiesel engine running for long periods of time.

Richard Frenz, Managing Director of MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (above, right - showing Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Malaysia’s Deputy Transport Minister the MAN XLion)explained during the launch of the XLION package and said, “We are excited to announce today the MAN XLION packages that combine our high-quality vehicles with industry-specific equipment and comprehensive aftersales service packages, designed to help simplify MAN customers’ business operations. The packages have been put together so that companies benefit from added value and drivers can rest easy in the comfort of MAN vehicles”.

Diverting a bit, I actually had a chance to have a short chat with Mr Frenz after the first day of MCVE 2019. It was late in the evening at around 7.30pm and the expo had already ended. Walking past the chap and a group of people who were busy chit chatting I was accosted by Frenz and was asked to take a photo of him and his mates (which included people from other brands). Took the photo but he then decided to bring me to his maroon XLION and have a little chat about his products. Nice jovial chap who is utterly passionate about the brand and its heritage  - a bit of trivia, MAN is actually pronouced as M.A.N and not 'man' as it actually means Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg which is like how you would say B.M.W or A.M.G.

Now back to the usual news bits....

Aside from the equipment stated, the MAN XLION also has an Aerodynamic Package which is available in all TG series. The aero packages are however only available for for the L and LX Cab variants and comprises of a roof spoiler and side panels with two movable side flaps. These is said to improve aerodynamics which should provide better fuel savings and driving quality when fitted to the trucks.

Also included in the latest Safety Package are the Exhaust Valve Brake (EVB), Emergency Stopping Signal (ESS), Anti-Spin Regular (ASR) and Anti-Jackknife Brake (AJK-B). These equipment will  help improve traction and enable more controlled braking in emergency situations. But that is not all...MAN has also stated that there are also the Mechanical and Electrical Packages too.

Under the Mechanical and Electrical Package, LED rear lights, daytime driving lights, Tyre Pressure Monitoring system (TPM), idle shut down and aluminum rims are recommended equipment to enhance efficiency, improve fuel consumption and lower maintenance cost. Of course, these are all new features and equipment that can be fitted to any MAN vehicle ordered through MAN Malaysia.

“The XLion equipment and service packages optimally enhance the unique benefits of our vehicles. For our customers, this means in addition to top vehicle performance and ultimate on-board comfort in every MAN XLION, they also get first class service and maximum driver assistance,“ add Franz.

As the XLION package also includes the aftersales part, the MAN ServiceContracts and the sector-specific training program, MAN ProfiDrive. MAN ServiceContracts cover maintenance and repairs and the exclusive use of MAN Genuine Parts and MAN Genuine Parts Ecoline. The MAN ProfiDrive program can be conducted at any location and covers both practical driving skills as well as theoretical aspects of safety, economy and vehicle inspection. This makes the XLION packages comprehensive for their customers.

“Our objective has always been to help our customers make their business simpler, more profitable, more sustainable and future-proof. I am confident with our MAN XLION packages and our comprehensive range of aftersales services, we can help make our customers’ job easier, true to our motto of ‘Simplifying Business’”, said Frenz.

These days, the sales of new commercial vehicles are centered around how good the vehicle is and also how great the aftersales packages are. Other relevant factors includes the total financing package, brand awareness and the relationship between the buyer and the seller. With the XLION packages offered, MAN trucks could be tailor made to suit operators needs whatever they may be.
