Many things happened with Scania at the recent Malaysian Commercial Vehicle Expo 2019 (MCVE 2019). The first thing was the entrance of the Scania truck driven by Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director, Marie Sjödin Enström Scania Malaysia into the lobby of the exhibition centre with Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Transport in the passenger seat as part of the opening launch gambit. Then, Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd (above) signed the first Scania Ecolution truck agreement in Asia after the official launch of MCVE 2019.
Going through the notable Scania events, we first jump right into the new partnership between Scania and Aone Logistics by explaining what is Scania Ecolution. This very ecologically friendly program is a tailor-made partnership between Scania and its customers that helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This is an important aspect in Scania's aim to be more eco-friendly in the long run and in terms of Malaysian transporters, saving every bit of fuel helps operating costs as well as the added bonus of doing their part to help the environment. Malaysian transporters have come a long way actually.
The goals or targets of Scania Ecolution is achieved through vehicle optimisation and agreed fuel and CO2 emissions reduction targets. The progress to reach the targets will be regularly monitored, evaluated and discussed with the Scania Ecolution Manager to ensure the desired result. Scania Ecolution focuses on reducing operating cost translated to improved profitability while fulfilling the growing demand for green initiatives. This is made easier with the fleet management telemetry systems installed in newer Scania trucks which comes fully packaged for operators to monitor their trucks for about a decade at the very least.
Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director, Marie Sjödin Enström said, “At Scania, we believe that sustainability and profitability can go hand-in-hand and Scania Ecolution will facilitate the shift towards a sustainable transport system. This is a holistic approach towards a more responsible and sustainable transportation of people and goods,”
The signing ceremony between Scania and Aone saw Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director, Marie Sjödin Enström sealing the partnership with Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd Managing Director, S. Palani and witnessed by Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, the Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia.
“Malaysia has in its participation to the Paris Agreement voluntarily committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 35-45% by 2030 (from the 2005 baseline). By working together with local operators, Scania Ecolution model is one of the many solutions to help meet that commitment,” added Marie on Scania's part in making Malaysia more compliant with global environment standards - a little goes a long way in these parts of the world.
Earlier this year, Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd acquired 15 Scania G-Series trucks in order to facilitate the expansion of their logistics business. The acquisition was made on a specially tailored hire purchase package and included a Repair and Maintenance contract as well as Scania Fleet Care. Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd will also be able to further optimise their operation with the Scania Ecolution agreement where more inter-party discussions will happen as a result of the added monitoring of the fleet management systems and then driver coaching which will result from this - with the systems, one can monitor everything from tyre wear, brake wear, fuel consumption and then it will be passed on during meetings between the parties.
“Aside from the performance, safety, and reliability of Scania trucks, Scania Ecolution will help my business in terms of discovering cost savings in every detail of our operations. The reduction of CO2 emissions and better fuel efficiency that comes with it also fulfils one of Aone Logistics’s commitment to protecting the environment,” commented a very convinced Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd Managing Director, S. Palani.

Scania Test & Drive Competition-MCVE 2019 Edition
Scania Test & Drive Competition-MCVE 2019 Edition returned for the fourth year giving visitors and members of the media the rare opportunity to handle Scania’s New Truck Generation and a Scania bus in a controlled environment. Participants had to complete specific tasks to win exclusive Scania merchandise. While not as challenging as the actual Scania Driver's Competition (which happens every two years or so), the mini Competition also served as an avenue for visitors to understand the challenges of manoeuvring a truck as well as the impact truck drivers have on the road – made easy and safe with a Scania.
In addition to the Scania Test & Drive Competition, Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Ajau, one of Scania Malaysia’s recipients of the Master Sustainability Fund also presented about the importance of sustainability amongst school children and what sustainability means to them. A Master Sustainability Colouring Contest for children will also be held on Saturday 22 June 2019 to educate the children on the importance of taking care of the environment and what they can do to help save the environment.
Scania basically had a lot of things going on in and around MCVE 2019. I believe the company put in a lot of effort in this expo and made it a little more memorable to those who visited it.
