BMW Group Malaysia Announced That They Had Delivered 14, 338 Units of BMW, MINI & BMW Motorrad in 2018, Another Record Year of Sales


BMW Group Malaysia had recently announced that it had achieved its eighth consecutive year of record sales with a total of 14,338 units of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles delivered for 2018. Quite an achievement and as always, they have been pretty silent whilst going about achieving this figures. This achievement marked a segment leading growth of 13% as compared to 2017 (12,681). Of course, one has to note that this is in three premium car (MINI being a separate brand) and motorcycle segments.


Globally, BMW delivered a total of 2,652,123 BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles last year. In terms of a breakdown of figures, the BMW brand delivered a total of 2,125,026 (+1.8%) vehicles, while MINI saw 361,531 delivered with BMW Motorrad delivering 165,566 units to new owners, an increase of 0.9% compared to 2017. BMW has done well for itself in 2018. It does show that in terms of a global economy, things are going strong for most of the premium carmakers.

Speaking about the achievements and milestones in 2018, Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia (pictured above) said, “In 2018, BMW Group Malaysia achieved numerous milestones which contributed to the success we celebrate today. Over the course of the year, we introduced 12 new models across the BMW and MINI brands. Four were electrified vehicles. We also unveiled two new concept vehicles for the first time ever not only in Malaysia, but in South East Asia.”

BMW
As stated above, the BMW brand saw 12,008 new owners in Malaysia. This is a 13% growth compared to 2017 (10,618). Of that number, 3,363 units were BMW 3 Series, of which 2,149 were the BMW 330e M Sport. The BMW X5 xDrive40e SUV was popular with 2,900 units delivered. This was followed by 2,761 units of BMW 5 Series delivered with 64% or 1,769 units of the 5 Series being the BMW 5 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology

MINI
The MINI compact car brand also recorded a double-digit growth of over 18% in 2018. MINI Malaysia delivered 1,200 vehicles last year, as compared to the previous year (1,011).Over 90 MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid vehicles were delivered since its introduction in April 2018.

In terms of electric hybrid vehicles, BMW Group Malaysia also recorded its best performance for its electrified vehicles in 2018. Of the total cars delivered, 57% comprised of electrified BMW and MINI
(7,532). This has further reinforced BMW Group Malaysia’s leadership role in electro-mobility, and the fact that Malaysian consumers embracing Visionary Mobility and hybrid drivetrains. 

This strong performance by BMW Group Malaysia had contributed to the BMW Group’s success of achieving the target delivery of 140,000 electrified vehicles, with 142,617 (+38%) electrified BMW
and MINI vehicles delivered worldwide for 2018.

Motorrad / Motorcycles
BMW Motorrad saw 1,130 new owners in 2018. This was a 7% growth compared to 2017 where they sold 1,052 units. According to BMW Group Malaysia, the key contributor to the growth was the BMW Motorrad R 1200 GS Adventure which saw over 300 new owners in 2018.

Fincancial Services
BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia achieved a strong business portfolio with over 6,100 contracts signed in 2018 due to attractive and unique financial solutions. BMW Financial Services successfully financed every four out of ten BMW and MINI vehicles delivered last year as well as every six out of ten BMW Motorrad vehicles last year. They also insured every seven out of ten vehicles from BMW Group Malaysia through its leading portfolio of insurance solutions.

Pushing for Electromobility
Hoelzl also stated that BMW Group Malaysia also grew its infrastructure for Electromobility in the country. The company had  introduced new BMW i Charging Facilities in four different states to facilitate its vision for Future Mobility in Malaysia.
“E-Mobility is a vision for the BMW Group in Malaysia and we demonstrated our commitment to this vision with our product offering across the BMW and MINI portfolio here. In 2018, we opened the doors to the new Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE) Engine Assembly Facility in Kulim, Kedah which helps us
assemble the engines for the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid which we also began exporting to Thailand last year.” said Hoelzl.

According to Hoelzl, 2019 will be another exciting year for the BMW Group in Malaysia. They will be coming out with a strong portfolio of products to be introduced here, which will mirror the biggest model offensive for the company worldwide. This should include the arrival of the new BMW 3 Series and the very recently facelifted  BMW 7 Series to name a few.
