Malaysia car manufacturer PROTON has announced a service fix to replace the passenger airbag inflator for all current generation Proton Perdana models. This is in line with the recall announced by Honda Motor Company regarding the passenger airbag inflator on the Honda Accord of which the Perdana is based on. This precautionary measure affects cars built from 2012 to the end of August 2018 and PROTON will be sending out notices regarding this issue to affected owners. Dammit Takata! You're still causing so much problems to this day!
According to PROTON, a total of 6,432 units of the Accord based Proton Perdana are affected. The service fix is part of a global initiative for cars equipped with Takata airbags. The action taken is in accordance with the latest Defect Information Report (DIR) issued by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) of America that requires the replacement of non-desiccated passenger inflators.
PROTON would like to reassure all customers the exercise does not affect any other Proton models as the airbags used are supplied by a different vendor (Thank God). Stringent controls are in place to ensure customer safety, which is a key priority for PROTON and any inconvenience caused is deeply regrettable. This simply isn't PROTON's fault, the Takata airbag debacle has been going on for a while and it does seem to affect A LOT of Honda vehicles here in Malaysia. So if you are a Honda user from 2000 onwards, you should take notice if there are any recalls and get it fixed. A few Malaysians have perished from this airbag exploding instead of just inflating to its required settings.
"Do note that cars built after 31 August 2018 are unaffected by the service fix while replacement of the inflator will take approximately one hour and will be performed free of charge.
