Kudos to Perodua! The Malaysian compact car manufacturer recently distributed 100 GearUp child safety seats to Perodua motorists at three highway rest areas in Peninsular Malaysia, as part of their on-going five-year Road Safety Campaign which was launched last October. This round of their safety campaign was done in collaboration with their partners Petronas and Perodua's panel of insurers. This is the first time they have done so with them.
The GearUp Toddler seat versions were gifted to lucky Perodua drivers travelling with children aged roughly between two and six, at Petronas stations at Rawang (PLUS), Bentong (Karak Highway) and Seremban (KL-Seremban Highway) rest areas.
Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin said this about the initiative, “We took this special initiative because we care for the well-being of our customers and their families. We hope Malaysians will come to realise how important it is to keep children properly secured in child seats while on the move.”
Perodua’s GearUp child seats were introduced with the launched of their Road Safety Campaign in October 2017. The seats are available in two models - one for Infants up to 13kg and another for children weighing from 9 to 36kg. Both are ISOFIX compatible and satisfy ECE R44 safety standards.
The Infant seat is priced at RM622.50 (RM640 in East Malaysia) while the Toddler seat, priced at RM736 (RM754.50 in East Malaysia), Currently their prices are still at an introductory pricing with 0% Goods and Services Tax (GST). The introductory prices are valid until 30 June with 0% GST prices carried on until the government's new taxation scheme is implemented.
“Seat belts are designed to restrain adults and not children. Please secure your young ones in child seats, ideally in the back seat, and do not place them on your laps when the vehicle is in motion. Always buckle up in the front and in the back, use your turn signals and do not operate your mobile devices on the move. Above all, drive carefully and have a safe journey back to your hometowns,”added Dr Zahari on the importance of using a child safety restraint (seat).
Note that there are two children here....and not a single child seat prior to Perodua installing one shown here...tsk, tsk, tsk.
We have heard of so many Malaysian children flung out of their vehicles in an accident. Safety seats are the correct way to go. Perodua is pushing for this and you readers out there should also do so as well as spread the word that we must inculcate the use of such child safety seats to safeguard our children. Your hands aren't good enough to withstand the forces in a crash.
