THE HAVAL M4 IS NOW CALLED THE HAVAL H1

The Haval M4 Compact Crossover SUV has been given a name change. The little EEV (energy efficient vehicle) certified SUV is now called the Haval H1. The only obvious changes to the car is that the H1 now has a differently styled chrome grille and the Haval logo is embedded on the steering wheel, car boot and seatbacks. It basically is the same car.

The name change is to streamline Haval products in the global market. You have the entry level H1, then the recently previewed H2 and then so on and on until the H6 and H9 models etc etc. It makes sense to have a lineup like this instead of 'M' here, 'H' there and so on.

To jog back the memories of you folks out there, the Haval H1 (previously known as Haval M4) is a B-segment sized SUV powered by a 1.5 litre four-cylinder VVT MPI engine with a total of 105hp at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,200rpm. For a test drive report of the M4 aka H1, click here

The Haval H1 variants, all of which are front-wheel drive, come with six-speed AMT (the manual transmission has been dropped due to lack of demand). The first is the Haval H1 Comfort is priced at RM60,017 , while the HAVAL H1 Premium is priced at RM65,852. For a H1 with everything inside it, Haval /  Go Auto offers the Haval H1 Elite at RM72,659. This has halogen headlights with LED lights on the background. Additional LED lights are also installed above the fog lamps which accentuate the design.

There are six colours to choose from including white, silver, black, blue, red and orange. Do note that the prices stated are on the road prices excluding insurance.

All Haval H1 variants come with a very long seven-year warranty with unlimited mileage to give owners a peace of mind. Go Auto is one of the first companies to offer such a lengthy warranty. It does show their confidence and commitment in this product. Its also a good thing that the H1 is a decent car to drive.

The folks at Haval Go Auto also mentioned that they target sales of about 1,100 units of the H1 in 2017. This is quite a sensible amount for what is an outside the box competitor in a market that has Proton and Perodua as its major players.

I also managed to find out that the recently previewed H2 C segment SUV (with its nicer turbocharged 1.5liter engine) should be coming up for local production within the next few months. This should bolster their line-up. Things should get better when the larger H6 full sized SUV comes in. I hope they bring that into Malaysia. That is quite a looker too if you do a search of it online (Also do also search on the Haval H1, in China it is a different compact SUV. It looks like a Ford EcoSport instead of a how this one looks - which is more Land Rover and VW combined)

PRESS RELEASE

HAVAL M4 IS NOW THE HAVAL H1

SHAH ALAM, 17 JAN 2017: Compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) Haval M4 is now

officially known as Haval H1 following a revamp.

The name swap came after the manufacturer, China-based Great Wall Motors Company

Limited, rebranded Haval in an effort to boost its sales internationally as the company aspires

to conquer the international market, especially in Asean.

Haval, an abbreviation of "Have All", not only is the prices affordable but also equipped with

the latest technology.

The front wheel drive SUV features three variants including Comfort, Premium and Elite

with the selling price remains unchanged.

In January this year, the "Buy Back Guarantee" scheme is introduced to assure its vehicle

owners receive 50% of its resale value should the SUVs are resold to the company within five

years.

Different from the M4, the H1 is furnished with a sporty chrome grille and the Haval logo is

embedded on the steering wheel, car boot and seats.

Go Auto Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Azam Dato' Sulaiman said the company hopes to

strengthen the brand locally with the rebranding of Haval M4 to H1.

"We would like to be widely known and remain with just a name - Haval. All our vehicles

will be introduced as Haval (after the re-launch)," he said.

Ahmad Azam added that Go Auto has made history in the local automotive sector by being

the first company awarded with car manufacturing license for energy efficient vehicles

(EEVs).

"Both H1 and H2 models received the EEV recognition from the International Trade and

Industry Ministry (MITI)," he said.
