Volvo and KidZania Kuala Lumpur Cultivate the Importance of Road Safety Through Role-Playing

This is a great piece of news. KidZania Kuala Lumpur recently announced its partnership with Volvo Car Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Volvo Car Malaysia) and Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Volvo Trucks Malaysia).

KidZania’s partnership with Volvo Trucks Malaysia is aimed to create awareness on road safety; by simulating actual road conditions especially when facing large trucks. This partnership is part of KidZania go! - a KidZania mobile school outreach programme. The programme incorporates Volvo Truck’s ‘Stop, Look, Wave’ campaign which is tailored towards raising children’s awareness on safe behaviours in traffic via the use of specially developed training kits. The kids also get to get to look at a real Volvo FM440 Prime Mover whilst at KidZania.

As for the initiative with Volvo Car Malaysia, KidZania will create a new entrant in their centre. A Volvo Car Dealership to KidZania’s child-friendly cityscape (they get to try sell Volvos eh?). Here, children will not only have the opportunity to experience the profession of a car dealer and designer, they will also learn about the importance of being seated correctly and thus safely, in a car.

Lots of educational play and learn here for your kids from Volvo. It is great to see two companies, which was once a single company a while ago, work together in educating road safety to children. I have been to KidZania with my kid and you can see kids go wide-eyed role playing what us adults do in real life.

Start 'em young they say. This is one of those ways.

PRESS RELEASE
It’s Safety First in KidZania Kuala Lumpur’s New Partnership

Volvo and KidZania Kuala Lumpur Cultivate the Importance of Road Safety

Through Role-Playing

Petaling Jaya, 19 December 2016 – KidZania Kuala Lumpur announced its partnership

with Volvo Car Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Volvo Car Malaysia) and Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd

(Volvo Trucks Malaysia), the newest members of its circle of forward thinking industry

partners.

Aligning with KidZania Kuala Lumpur’s unique approach to inculcate life skills learning

among children, the initiative with Volvo Car Malaysia will create a new entrant of the Volvo

Car Dealership to KidZania’s child-friendly cityscape. Here, children will not only have the

opportunity to experience the profession of a car dealer and designer, they will also learn

about the importance of being seated correctly and thus safely, in a car.

Volvo has played a leading role in child safety innovations ever since it developed the

rearward-facing child seat and introduced the world to the child booster cushion. This is in

line with the brand’s vision, that by 2020, no one should be killed or seriously injured in a

new Volvo Car.

“At Volvo, we are working towards building a safer world for all road users – a big part of

securing this future is education. We realise that there is a lack of understanding in the

importance of using proper child seats in Malaysia,” remarked Lennart Stegland, Managing

Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

Stegland adds, “With this establishment, we hope to educate the children and they will in

turn deliver the message to their parents with greater impact.”

In addition to learning about the importance of child seats, the Volvo Car establishment

within Kidzania will also encourage children to develop and improve their interpersonal

communication skills by delivering a sales presentation as a car dealer. The car designer

profession on the other hand encourages children to express themselves creatively through

the use of a customised software that will have them make decisions on car aesthetics and

safety features.

Meanwhile, KidZania’s partnership with Volvo Trucks Malaysia is aimed to create awareness

on road safety; by simulating actual road conditions especially when facing large trucks. This

partnership is part of KidZania go! - a KidZania mobile school outreach programme. The

programme incorporates Volvo Truck’s ‘Stop, Look, Wave’ campaign which is tailored

towards raising children’s awareness on safe behaviours in traffic via the use of specially

developed training kits. This is part of Volvo Group’s global campaign which offers

interactive training and user material for children as well as educators, youth, group leaders,

police officers and other people who work with children.

The children get to experience being behind the wheels of a Volvo FM440 truck alongside

participating in a classroom session inside the Volvo Truck Exhibition trailer where they will

be exposed to the importance of identifying blind spots and practice proper road etiquette.

“Safety is one of Volvo Truck’s core values which we hold dearly to our hearts. It has

become part of us, our culture and brand heritage. Volvo has a long tradition of developing

products that enhances safety and continuously invests large amount of time and resources

studying accidents, consequences and causes. And now, we are bringing to the classroom

key safety learnings and skills as we belief in starting young with the main targets of this

campaign being school kids.” said Mats Nilsson, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia Sdn

Bhd.

Over the years, Volvo Trucks Malaysia has been actively carrying out safety campaigns,

working closely with their customers and partners and today, partners KidZania to bring the

“Stop, Look and Wave” initiative to a wider audience. Nilsson continued, “Volvo Group works

in many ways to reduce risks; from providing useful information to people who uses our

products as well as cooperating with other stakeholders in society with the common aim of

creating safer roads and transport systems. We believe the greatest step towards our Safety

Vision is taken together with others.”

Mr. William Edwards, Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Theme Park & Attractions,

Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd who commemorated the event with the

presentation of the ‘key’ to the city to its new partners said the collaboration with Volvo Car

Malaysia and Volvo Trucks Malaysia will further enrich the children’s learning experience in

KidZania.

“The involvement of industry partners such as Volvo make the role-playing activities more

authentic because as the experts of their industry, our partners will provide the necessary

tools and knowledge to train and expose our children to perform different professions. While

children are having fun playing different professions and understanding the responsibility of

each role, they also acquire life skills such as socialising, mutual cooperation and respect, all

of which is quintessential to live a better quality of life,” said Edwards.

KidZania Kuala Lumpur offers over 100 profession related role-playing activities spread

across 60 various city establishments that encourage children to practice adaptive and

positive behaviour that will help to groom them to handle the demands and challenges of

everyday life. KidZania Kuala Lumpur is also an official co-curricular partner to the Malaysian

Ministry of Education.
