Perodua performing extremely well recording 28.3% jump in the 3rd Quarter 2023 sales figures - YTD registers 230,000 Perodua vehicles

Perodua has announced that they have achieved a 28.3% increase in sales for the third quarter of this year. This amounts to 88,537 units compared to 69,011 units in the same quarter of 2022 with production already going on an increase. The increase in registration was due to improvement in the manufacturing production efficiency, which saw 91,528 units made which equates to an increase of 21.7% compared with 75,196 units in the same quarter of 2022.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “The third quarter of 2023 is our starting point in terms of increasing monthly production above 30,000 units per month as supplies of raw materials and parts can now catch up with demand,” .

As regards year-to-date (YTD) figures, Perodua has stated that they had produced 245,341 units as of September 2023 which was a 18.6% increase from 206,837 units in the same period last year.

“This increase in production shows the potential of the Malaysian automotive ecosystem as they further improve their economies of scale without sacrificing quality and cost efficiency,” added Dato Sri Zainal.

Dato’ Sri Zainal further stated that with these improvements, Perodua’s production and sales outlook for the fourth quarter of 2023 would be at their highest in the company’s history.

“We remain committed to reducing our customers’ waiting period. We believe that the waiting period from January 2024 onwards would be better managed,” he said.

Perodua’s year-to-date (YTD) registration stood at 233,227 units in the first nine months of this year as opposed to 196,354 units sold in the same period last year.

Of the 233,227 units registered, the top Perodua model sold over the nine-month period is the Perodua Bezza, followed by the Perodua Axia and the Perodua Myvi.

“This positive development has helped Perodua to further improve our production capacity and expedite the deliveries of cars to our valued customers. We are also on track to achieve our registration target of314,000 for this year,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

Meanwhile, for month-on-month comparison, Perodua registered 28,995 units in September 2023, which is 17.7% increase from 24,626 units in September 2022.

In terms of production, Perodua manufactured 31,447 cars in September 2023, an increase of 8.2% from 29,077 units in September 2022.

In terms of the overall automotive industry, the question that could be asked is that is this a robust and growing industry? Or is the Malaysian economy making gains? I suppose when it comes to Perodua, it makes compact, quality vehicles that actually make sense in both a growing or a contracting market. It has the cars that people would want to buy during good times for their second or third car, and if the market is bad, it also has the cachet of being the most affordable brand with the quality to boot. It wins in any situation.
